08.16.2007 :: On a friend, yarn and some turkey

Sometimes you meet a person for the first time and you feel like you've known them all of your life. I have been blessed to have this feeling more than a couple of times in my life. Meeting Li was one of those times. We had such a wonderful time together on Monday talking from the time she opened to door until the time I drove away. Li is a wonderful, caring, funny, talented, warm person that I am privileged to call my friend. I miss her already.
We shopped too!
Me 'n Li
Patternworks.
I do believe that store would qualify as the mecca for knitters. Perhaps if not the whole worldwide mecca, it will be the contender for the Knitting Mecca, Northeastern USA version! We wiled away hours dreaming about yarn projects. Poor Li got a bit overwhelmed with all of the choices and came away with no yarn. I got some yarn. Mitten yarn, as if that surprises you! Yarn shops can be like that though, can't they? You have big plans to spend money and then a decision cannot be made for the life of you.
We then headed to Hart's Turkey Farm for lunch. A better lunch could not be had, I tell ya. We had Thanksgiving. Why wait until November (October for you Canadian friends, Li included). I'm not going to name any names, but SOMEONE had a platter of turkey and fixings and SOMEONE had the day after sandwich packed with all the fixings.
Have I mentioned how I love turkeys? And especially turkey platters? Turkey love. I can't help myself. I have a budding collection. So the turkey stuff at Hart's made me a bit dizzy.
Turkey platters
And more:
Turkey mecca
Cap anyone?
Got Turkey?
I did not buy it. But cool it is.
Turkey carving
I thought about pulling a chair up and pilfering a turkey platter or two but the plan had holes. For one thing? I carry a small, small purse. No room for platters. For another thing? How do you climb on a chair to take down the platters in a crowded restaurant? Have you ever done that successfully? I'd like to hear from the person that does. Not that stealing is right. Not that I would do it. But you know. Turkey platters and all.
I'm left wondering if Li got a bit tired of me saying things like "Look at that cloud" or "Isn't the sky beautiful?". I live that Saturday sky thing. I do. I can't help it.
So, this entry about my love for Li and turkeys (one is not to be confused with the other) without a bit of sky watching, would it?
New Hampshire Sky on a Monday
Kind of looks like a lobster with it's claws up. No doubt, he's glad he's not a turkey on this day!
So, to sum it all up.
If you get a chance to meet Li, Do it.
If you get a chance to go to Patternworks, do it, with lots of cash.
and
If you are in the area, eat lunch at Hart's Turkey Farm.
You'll be glad. I was.

Sounds like y'all had a lot of fun. I love turkey and DH is not so fond of it. I have my mother's turkey platter, somewhere. didja have sweet potatoes? the clouds here have been dramatic, but I ain't standing out there with a camera when it's 105.

My stepgrandfather was amazingly good at pilfering restaurant goods - they had an entire set of (matching!) silverware from the buffet place down the street from them at one time and he's still working on getting matching plates from Old Country ;o) He would have gone with Cookie's plan *grin*

Your lobster cloud made my stomach do a little lurch (though it is pretty)...I've sworn off the crustaceans 'til next year - I learned this year that six in five days is a bit too much for me ;o)

You are thrice lucky! I hope someday to do at least one of those.

I love Hart's Turkey Farm. And Patternworks, too. It's one of the places I visited with my Wednesday night buddies.

Sounds like you both had a great day. I love Hart's Turkey farm whenever we go to NH we always eat there.

Ooh, I wish I were there! I'd have brought a BIG bag, big enough for a turkey platter. :)

Perhaps the lobster is reaching for that little turkey-shaped cloud?

Sounds like you had a wonderful day!

You need a pregnant friend to faint and cause a diversion...

Or a large handbag and the a little nerve. Stand on the chair to get a closer a look at the platter you want. Then take it down and show it to the person you're with. Discuss it intently. Then place it on the table under your handbag. Then slip it into the bag while you go for your wallet to pay for lunch. You're not stealing a turkey platter. You're not paying attention and trying to not leave anything behind. ;^)

No, I've never done it. However, if I had had a standard head screwdriver with me that one night, I might have gotten my mother a roster lamp. That's all I'm saying...

I forgot to ask. Are you the Sandy that is friends with "Now Norma Knits"? She and I have never met though we live but a short distance from each other.

Thanks for all that info. I am going to Patternworks next week and now I know where to have lunch. I have your blog on my googlereader and didn't realize till now that we are New England neighbors!

Hart's Turkey Farm....I think I was there many, many years ago. Mmmm. Turkey.

Posted by: claudia on 08.17.2007 AT 07:12 AM

I would have created a diversion for you, and then you could have gotten away with a platter. :)

Sounds like a wonderful day and how lucky to get to hang out with Li. And what's not to love about turkey -- yum!!

Posted by: Kathy on 08.16.2007 AT 10:14 PM

That restaurant sounds just wonderful. I am glad that you had such a great time. Sorry about the small purse. I have never had much luck getting things off the walls- you need a partner to create a diversion.

I LOVE Harts. I HEART HARTS. Where else can you go and get Thanksgiving style food in the heat of summer? It's heavenly.
Are you sure that's a lobster, and not KERMIT the Cloud???

Hi Sandy! This is Li's sister Jane. It was great to meet you the other day and was so jelous about the Hart's turkey restaurant but sad to say not the yarn shop! I am happy to say that I learned a new stich on staurday at the New Hampshire Fisher Cats game from Li. I can now pearl! YIPPEE! Look out friends and family... new scarfs are being made as we speak. Maybe I will try my hand at mittens. Have any easy patterns?

I used to go to a turkey farm restaurant when I was a kid. It's cool that places like that still exist. Maybe I'll make a turkey next week.... hee hee!
