08.20.2007 :: Hermits do the town! Or: what I learned on the subway

Sunday was spent in the company of 2 good blogging friends. It was a short but sweet visit with Norma and Dave. It almost makes me want to be a more social person. Almost. The hermit in me would have other plans, I'm sure!
A motley crue if ever there was one
The old photo in a mirror trick. We really had lots of fun, lots of laughs, and honestly? I've never watched asses as much as that day. Dave is a bad influence in that way.
You should definitely go to my FLICKR page to see the rest of the photos, but here are my favorites!
A place for clouds?
Who knew? This photo would mark one of those times when Norma and Dave were happily walking along, chatting away not noticing that I was 100 feet back taking a picture of something inspiring. Or weird. Mostly weird. Or sky related.

Question: How do gnomes make money?
I hope my gnomes don't get wind of this. They might get ideas and go off on their own.
I saw lots of shops, homeless people sleeping on Newbury Street, lots of people that annoyed the heck out of me, a butterfly right there in the city, Saks, yarn and there may have been forced salad involved. But I saw nothing. There was no cake even though there was an impending birthday. Or ice cream. No ice cream. Which means, of course, that we will have to do it again!
And what did I learn on the subway? Well, perhaps it was more like an Epiphany WHILE on the subway.
I learned:
~I do not like to wear hand knit socks while out walking. I love to wear them at home, while sitting. Not in shoes walking around. When I was a child, my mother always bought me shoes that were too big so that I could "grow into them". Mostly? They just gave me blisters and have made my feet into kind of sensitive flowers. Hand knit socks = blisters on the bottoms of my feet. Just like old times. Only better.
~Riding a subway is a bad, bad place for someone who is a bit germ phobic. I have horrible balance so I need to hold on dearly while standing, subway surfing. And I am holding onto a germ infested metal pole held by GOD KNOW'S WHO and what and well, ick. ICK. Ew. I'm still washing my hands. And soaking my feet.
The fun goes on, doesn't it?

Oh, I'll bet you guys had a blast! What fun!! And I'm with you totally on the whole subway/germ thing. Gak.

We missed you at Yarns in the Farms Tuesday night. Were you still recovering from Dave and Norma, perhaps?

Looks like you had a great time! What fun to meet in person!

Hermits need an occasional outing. Especially with the Norma. I machine wash and dry my hand knit/crocheted socks - really helps with the comfort factor.

Oh, don't worry abou the T, I lived in Boston for 3 years (until recently)and nothing on the T ever made me sick. You'll be fine.

oh ick - I bring an extra large bottle of germ-killing stuff whenever we visit the city...oh ick...I think I'll go wash my hands FOR you...*shudder*

Other than that - sounds like tons of fun!! ;o)

OMG, the Arse Stalkers are over here, too? Had I known, I'd have worn tight jeans and a wifebeater tank top. Wow.

What Carole said.

Posted by: Lucia on 08.21.2007 AT 12:01 PM

Oh you crack me up girl. It sounds like you still had a great time though.

Posted by: Tracey on 08.21.2007 AT 11:53 AM

oh god, i hate germ phobics on the T. sorry honey, but if you don't have a strong enough constitution to deal with the T, then don't go on it. period. and subway surfing is just as annoying.

a little germiness is good for you. it keeps your immune system working properly.

in fact, when i took the T all of the time, i was never sick.

so i'm going to get on the T this afternoon and lick all of the poles. heh heh.

Subways just make your immune system wake up a little. Glad you had fun!

But you must admit, even all the germies were worth it! It was too short, but as you said, SWEEEET. So glad we did it!

Aww.. you didn't call me?? I was just up the river in Newton! :)

So... what? no picture of Dave's butt? :)

As for the subway thing: I believe 200% that my having never had a cold (until I dated Dan-- he's like a germ factory) in my life is due to riding the Orange Line. Seriously, once you are a commuter, you sit/stand/surf with the paper in one hand, coffee in the other, iPod on and ready to go. Sure you wash your hands when you get to work, but I think the MBTA might induce the world's strongest immunity ever. :) trust me, I'm a scientist. ;)

Traveling around Boston with Dave and Norma - what an adventure! But you seriously missed an opportunity: snapping a shot of Dave's butt (or are you keeping such a photo all to yourself?)

Missed you on Saturday, I kept looking and looking, because you said you were coming........

I know you had fun and all, but our fun was good, but diminished a bit without you.

;)

Sorry for monopolizing Norma. ;-) You should've gotten on the phone and said hi!!!

Subways are gross, but I can't agree about the socks.

I thought of you today... I was in a local bookstore, and saw a calendar whose theme was "clouds"!

I'm not sure you get to call yourself a hermit anymore. You've been awfully social of late! ;-)

Purell will forever change your relationship with public spaces of all sorts. And it comes in different scents! I have a lemony bottle that I love. ;-)

When Dave posted that he had a blogger outing I had no idea it was you and Norma. jealous, jealous, jealous.

Posted by: Carole on 08.20.2007 AT 08:14 PM

They made you eat salad?! That's just mean. Again, but with pastry and ice cream.

Ya know, if you had a larger handbag, you could keep those clorox wipes in your bag. Just sayin'...

Well, I was going to give you a hard time for skipping out on me at the Revival this Sat, but two days in one weekend is kind of a lot. . . so you're forgiven. I missed you though!

Sandy gets out of her comfort zone...three words...buy bigger shoes!
XOXO

Oh, had I known you were such a germ-phobe, I'd have offered you my hand sanitizer.
It was a lot of fun, but you were so introverted and quiet most of the time, it was hard to tell if you were having fun...
