10.09.2007 :: it's not easy being green

For the lack of anything knitting (although I did help a coworker out of a knitting hat jam, which is hardly noteworthy!) I give you..
avocado cam.
He is pretty!
Such majestic leaves! He is so pretty! (the phrase that just KILLS my kids. They claim that a HE can't and shouldn't be PRETTY! I beg to differ. So, HE is PRETTY!)
(Although I really cannot tell if it's a Mr. Avocado or a Miss Avocado and I'm not looking that closely!)
And how tall?
Look for yourself:
avocado cam!
A tall drink of water standing at about a foot and half tall. They grow so fast!
I fear that my reputation is moving into "plant lady" territory when I came into work and saw this sitting on my desk!
Clivia
I'd like to introduce you to Miss Clivia. She is pretty too, standing in a fan shape. And apparently she flowers! Roots crossed for that occasion. For now? I'm just hoping for a good adjustment to her new home. It's a tough transition you know, for little plants to be taken from their home and into an adopted home. They have to get used to everything again. Some don't make it.
And finally, an archaeological dig of sorts. These are all bottles dug up from our yard during the construction. And not one little green toy army man was found, which is unusual. They seem to be in abundance in this yard!
old bottles
I love old bottles. I love how they look, the writing on them and the color. But mostly? I love that they have a history that is tied somehow to the former residents of my home. The stories those bottles could tell!

Nice avocado plant, he is pretty. My sister, who lives near Ft. Lauderdale, has an avocado tree in her yard.

Nice addition to your plant family!

We found a green army guy in our kitchen ceiling a few years ago (along with a marble and a few other things). I swear, they're everywhere!

He IS pretty! I am so impressed with your avocado skills. I love old blue and brown bottles too. Very beautiful.

I've got those old bottles dug up from the back yard, too. Any "Lydia Pinkham" bottles in your collection? She must have been used frequently in my neighborhood, 'cause we have lots!

Although, come to think of it, I rather like my clivia.

Wow! Cool avocado!!! And cool bottles! And I like clivia, except her name. Remind me too much of a part of the female anatomy.

He IS pretty!

What do those kids know anyway? ;^)

Clivia have beautiful orange-reddish flowers. Just keep it in a small pot. If you give its roots lots of space it will not get any flowers.

Beautiful bottles. I love how you've displayed them.

Wow, and all of them intact! They're beautiful. (I mean the bottles, of course, but the plants are beautiful too.)

YAY! Avocado cam! I was wondering how it was doing! Great to see it IS pretty (had to send a shiver virtually to your kids) I find plans (may their genders remain a mystery sometimes) pretty all the time...

I love old bottles too, especially apothecary ones with wild claims of miracle cures!

Look at that avocado plant grow! But the real question is, how long before I can come over for guacamole?

Cool bottles. I wonder if they were buried by a bunch of teenagers after a wild partying rampage.

The house I grew up in was build next to an old dump (back then they didn't dump food stuffs) and there were bunches of old bottles.
