10.23.2007 :: Quick pics

What does one say about a fun weekend that went by like a blur?
There were:
People!
DSC09831.JPG
My Norma and Jessalu! I finally got to meet me some Jessalu! She gave me a Brian Regan DVD! Thanks, Jess! If you have not yet heard Brian Regan, I implore you to.
and
DSC09832.JPG
ChappysMom and Chappy's Mom's Mom. Easier to say Chappy's PEOPLE, I guess!
and
DSC09834.JPG
Lots of former Bostonians. I miss them all!
Wendy, Jackie, Elyse and I see Melanie in there too!
and
DSC09841.JPG
Minestrone Kate and Stoneview Julie! I had to drive approximately 1369 miles* from home to meet them but they live within 20 miles of me.
*yes, that's an exaggeration for emphasis
and
DSC09864.JPG
Soap Star Ryan and Carole, an all star friend and future huge star Abigail, Norma's beautiful Abigail.
and sheep of some sort:

DSC09844.JPG
and dogs (this one was sold and waiting to be picked up by his new owners)
DSC09849.JPG
Straight up artichoke love (my first time having the artichokes french (not fried) and won't be the last!
DSC09839.JPG
Tips are hip:

Which I can imagine.
Overindulged pumpkins, some pumpkins cannot handle their sheep and wool festivals: (carved by CIA students)

And funky hat wearing men:
DSC09895.JPG
That is one man secure in his manhood, is it not?
~~~
And finally?
A riddle.
Q: When a knitter goes on a weekend trip to the NY Sheep and wool festival, spending loads of dough before even stepping into the festival and then buys a couple of things but then all of a sudden goes hog wild and purchases a kit from Philosophers Wool that she justifies will be put away by said knitters' husband for a Christmas gift (INTAKE OF AIR) And that knitter and her husband just spent a medium fortune on house repairs also..
continuation of Q: What do you think happens next?
A: Her refrigerator will indeed die.
Yes.
(Serenity now)
That stupid rotten nasty bastard Murphy. His laws really truly STINK. I didn't say "suck" because you hate that word and you don't need any more pains in your ass right now. Am I right? Hee.
XOXO
P.S. I went awwwwwwww several times in this post!
Posted by: Norma on 10.24.2007 AT 09:41 PM
Ooops. That is a sad story, Sandy.
Posted by: claudia on 10.24.2007 AT 08:36 PM
Hi! Deb (Chappysmom) alerted me to your identity. Apparently, you are in one of my Rhinebeck photos. I kinneared Harlot and she must've been saying something very interesting because you have the greatest surprised/shocked look on your face. Maybe, we'll meet in person next year.
Posted by: Kim on 10.24.2007 AT 04:48 PM
I feel even luckier that I ran into you (however briefly) considering that I missed not only Norma, but Soap Star Ryan as well.
YAY Philosopher's Wool! I was tempted by one of their kits--dunno what it was called, but it was red. And pretty.
Poor old fridge. I'm with Erin, stick your yarn in it! ;-)
Posted by: Beth S. on 10.24.2007 AT 01:29 PM
That's a bummer about the fridge. But the Philosopher's kit was SO worth it! I bought their Aran kit and it is thisclose to being finished!
Posted by: Felicia on 10.24.2007 AT 07:26 AM
That riddle has me laughing and crying at the same time. But the sweater kit isn't returnable, is it? What a shame. And it does do a good deed as a Christmas gift.
Posted by: Laurie on 10.24.2007 AT 06:40 AM
I had to wait till Sunday before I was able to get my artichoke fix. I guess all the artichoke talk made that place crazy!
I missed meeting you, but there's always next year.
I hate how money likes to disappear out of the wallet in droves at times. Best of luck on the fridge hunt. I would like to second Carole's stay away from Sears, don't even go there.
Posted by: michelle on 10.23.2007 AT 11:23 PM
Did your refrigerator make a death pact with my freezer? ;o)
I like Erin's idea - store the yarn in there!
It was great to meet you!! :o) Does the DVD work?
Posted by: JessaLu on 10.23.2007 AT 11:01 PM
bummer about the fridge.
Posted by: maryse on 10.23.2007 AT 09:58 PM
what?? you went back and bought that sweater kit?! naughty naughty Sandy!
after our talk about how we weren't needing anything etc. ...... I suppose to be fair I should tell you that I ended up buying a fleece!
Posted by: ann on 10.23.2007 AT 09:48 PM
Ya know, we *did* meet at the very first ever Yarn Harlot book signing at Willowbooks way back when. I was the geeky one passing my camera down with a rainbow photo on it for you. ;) My condolences on the fridge, when it rains it pours. Just hope it's not contagious as the fellow who came to fix the furnace last winter said it was on it's way out soonish.
Posted by: Julie on 10.23.2007 AT 08:29 PM
Aargh! Don't say that! I just spent too much at Kim Hargraves' site, and my fridge is definitely on it's last legs. It has to last just a little bit longer!!
Posted by: Donna on 10.23.2007 AT 08:22 PM
Hi, Sandy -
I read your blog all the time and love it! I lived and worked on the north shore of Boston for years until moving to southern Rhode Island (drop dead beautiful beaches!) several years ago. I always read the "Boston blogs"...even though they make me homesick sometimes!
A good cure for dried hands...rub liquid vegetable oil (Wesson, Crisco, etc.) all over your hands (stand at the sink to do this!)- sprinkle a liberal dose of white granulated sugar and "wash" your hands for several minutes. Run under warm water when done (no soap) and finish with hand cream. It's magic - you'll want to do your entire body...trust me!
Many thanks for sharing your knitting and the Northshore. Hope you and your hands have a stress-free cold weather season!
Happy knitting!
Maureen
Those three really are beautiful.
I'm sorry about the fridge, honey. That just sucks. Doesn't Home Depot have a no interest for six months thingy going? Small comfort, right?
I'm so glad you had a good time over the weekend.
Posted by: Cookie on 10.23.2007 AT 07:31 PM
Um, well, the cold weather SHOULD be here any time now . . . maybe you can get away without a refrigerator for a few months?
I had SO much fun on Saturday, and so did Mom! It was great seeing you again, even if only for a short time.
Oh, and Chappy just likes to call us "Mine!"
Posted by: --Deb on 10.23.2007 AT 06:42 PM
ACK!!! I just read Carole's comment and had Carole on the brain.
Norma is a SANDY HOG!!!!
Jeesh, where is my brain?
Posted by: Teresa C on 10.23.2007 AT 06:36 PM
I'm with Kate, rent indeed. :)
I didn't get to spend any time with you this weekend, Norma is a Carole hog. I walked by when you were all in the Philosopher's Wool booth and saw that look of acquisition. That look would have gotten me to purchase something as well, so I kept on a-walkin'! I say knit it now. Have it wrapped and under the tree, you'll get to wear it sooner.
Posted by: Teresa C on 10.23.2007 AT 06:35 PM
sounds like a good time to start charging rent. :)
Really, though? Home Depot had the best prices on fridges... at least when we looked.
great meeting you too! and.. i actually like that photo of me!
Posted by: Kate on 10.23.2007 AT 06:32 PM
So that's all I gotta do to get a new 'fridge? Buy more yarn???
It was so great to see you. Next time, we've got to hang more. I mean it.
Posted by: Vicki on 10.23.2007 AT 05:19 PM
So sorry about the fridge. One piece of advice - don't buy a new one from Sears.
So much fun this weekend, we have to get together again soon!
Posted by: Carole on 10.23.2007 AT 04:47 PM
Aw, crappers. (Yes, I picked that one up from Ravelry!) Good to see you this weekend, but sorry to hear about the fridge. Just remind yourself -- when cared for properly, a wool sweater costs less that a new fridge and will last much longer. In fact, it's a bargain compared to the fridge, since it doesn't require electricity. Your husband should thank you for purchasing it!
Posted by: Danielle on 10.23.2007 AT 04:36 PM
You have a way with a story, Sandy my dear. How fun to see Rhinebeck through your eyes. I remember last year you shared fun pictures, too. Missed you. Can't wait to see the new sweater AND get a new fridge with the freezer on the bottom;-)
Posted by: margene on 10.23.2007 AT 04:11 PM
That blows about your fridge, but at least you have the warm memories of time spent with your homies! Right? Right?
Posted by: Sandy on 10.23.2007 AT 04:03 PM
But you can store yarn in the old refrigerator! Air tight , no moths... no additional purchases for large furniture pieces! Looks like you had a great time. :)
