11.22.2007 :: The giving of Thanks

Yesterday as were setting up the table (I'm one of those day before table setters) we realized how pathetic our table and chair situation was.Is. We have had the same table/chair set since we were married, 23 years and we bought it from a friend's mother who had it for an unknown amount of time. Most of the chairs have broken so we have such a mismatch of chairs going on including the many folding chairs that Andy bought at BJ's last night. It looks quite...well, dorm-ish.
And oddly? That's fine with me. We'll put a new table set on our list of things to buy. But honestly, how can we think of it now? This has been the most expensive summer/fall combo of our lives!
Chairs won't matter though. I hope. It's Thanksgiving.
What will matter??
What matters most is whether those damned mashed potatoes will taste fresh or not!
:D
haha! (Thought I'd deviate from my usual sappy "thankful" post!)
HAPPY THANKSGIVING if you happen to celebrate. If you don't, I wish for you, something to be thankful for anyway.
Fig can't wait.

let me know when my turkey is ready!
P.S.
I can't be the only one who logs onto Google just to see what holiday graphic they came up with this year, can I?

I'll bet you had the happiest thanksgiving no matter what chairs you sat on. I'm waiting to hear about the potatoes. Love you.

Hei Sandy! I just wanted to thank you for your lovely blog:). I've kept on reading it time to time over a year now and it really cheers me up. I'm a huge fan of knitting and all sorts of hand crafing, not to mention cooking, and have gotten many good tips from you. Although here in Finland we dont celebrate Thanksgiving I wish you the best time with you loved ones and I'm sure your fabulous dinner will be fresh:) !
Your blog fan,
Kirsi from Santa Claus Land

Hahaha, they should all be happy and thankful for those chairs!! I have a ragtag assortment, as well, but because of the (now somewhat lapsed) interest in chair-caning, they're not all as, um, shall we say "supportive" as one might like. You never know 'round here, the chair cushion could be hiding a bit of a void. It's like a little game I play.
Happy Thanksgiving, Sandy!! XO

Lovely contemplative picture of Fig today. I think he's enjoying the peace before the hordes arrive. And you're right. Mismatched chairs don't matter a whit as long as the people you want are sitting on them. Enjoy.

Please don't give any turkey to Vincent. It gives him.... never mind.
My fingers are crossed for your SAM mashed potatoes!!! Reviews expected! (I do have a SAM somewhere deep in my cupboards.)

I always set the table the day before, too. Just like my mom did. It's funny how we carry on those traditions without even thinking about it. And, let's face it, Thanksgiving is totally about tradition. Cue Fiddler on the Roof.
Happy Thanksgiving, Sandy.

Um, I had to go look at Google to see the graphic and it was a turkey SITTING at the table! Your table will be full of good food and love and nothing, nothing else matters.

Well crap. I forgot to log on to Google. Thanksgiving is now ruined for me.
;o)
p.s. If chairs mattered I'd be screwed, one-third of the chairs at my Thanksgiving table were from the Fire Dept!
