01.01.2008 :: 1. an auspicious beginning of a blog year? Or a nervous breakdown waiting to happen...
Frazzled.
That in a word sums up my 2007. Things need to change with this here 2008. Time to resolve. I'm not much of a resolution maker in years past but this year I make a notable exception. In fact I make 2 resolutions, can you stand it?
The first:
Simplify. This will solve the frazzliness of life. Declutter. Straighten up. Do more yoga stretching. Whatever it takes to simplify my life. It needs to happen. In fact, I believe I got inspiration from my ornament-less Christmas tree. It was so beautiful in it's simplicity. And then, when we went to my mother's for Christmas, I visited my childhood neighbor, who is now 86 years old. Even though we arrive unannounced, her home looks exactly like it did when I was growing up. Neat as a pin, every thing in it's place and very homey. Not stuffy and museum feeling at all like some elderly homes can. Inspiration hit me in that moment. It's about simplicity. Stuff is not the answer.
And the second resolution? To blog every single flipping day of the year. Oh. My. God. What have I done? I have not one ounce of confidence in myself on this one. And yet? That little optimist in me is bouncing up and down with excitement! We'll see how it pans out. I may need medication before it's all said and done. I hope you'll stick around and read and throw a bone (comment) every now and then. We can all say that we blog for ourselves but if we get REAL, it's about the connection. With you. And you too. You, over there. You too.
Not you.
Ew.
:)
(for those new around here: KIDDING)
But really, one year. 365 days. 12 months. It's not much. In the scheme of a life, it's like 20 minutes.
~~~
So, here we are more than 12 hours into my new year of simplicity. Wondering how I'm doing yet? Well. I slept in, 8:30 am. What a bum, right? I'm still in my pajamas (no pictures, you can thank me later) which saves on laundry and I'm thinking about cleaning out the fridge.
We all have to start somewhere.
A whole year...in a ROW? Yikes. You're a brave, brave woman, hon.
I hope you're out of your pjs by now. :)
Here's to simplifying! I am doing the same around here. Finally got rid of my prom dress, and I might clean out my book closet by the time the week is over. Whee! Happy New Year!
Hey, I'm right there with you on the simplifying thing. And the major decluttering. I know it's too much when it starts to bother me and stress me out - and that is not a good thing.
Happy Wednesday! (and of course Happy New Year, too)
2007 was insane for us. Strange, because I didn't work the last half of the year, but I still felt like there wasn't enough time during the day. I didn't like that feeling very much.
I'm a big proponent of clutterless environments. I don't have any knick-knacks in my house and I get itchy if I see something out of place (drives Bill absolutely bonkers!!). Anyway, simplification is a good thing! Keep us posted!!
I need to declutter in a big way, work down my stash and lose weight. Looking forward to your daily posts. I know you can do it- yes it is all about the connection.
8:30 am is still the crack of dawn as far as I am concerned! You are right, though, simple is better. When we try to do too much, that is when we get into trouble. At least, I do!
I was just upstairs telling Meg that if you have less stuff, it's less stuff to clean up! (The irony is how much of my stuff is in the way of her stuff... but I'm working on it.)
This is my big year of the declutter too.
Happy new year!
You can do it! I'll be right there beside you. Best of luck.
Happy New Year Sandy!! You can do it!
Cant wait to visit your blog every day:)
Oh, the fridge!! Garbage day is TOMORROW!! Thanks for the reminder.
; )
I can echo just about every thought you have here... except that 365 business. Have you joined the ABC-Along yet? That'll give you fodder at least once every two weeks. Play your cards right, blog the possibilities for each letter, and you could eke out a few more posts...
GOOD LUCK!!
An interesting pair of resolutions. Working together or in conflict? Time will tell!
You go grrl!
Happy New Year! I tried -- and was relatively successful -- in simplifying in 2007. We purged a lot of stuff when we moved, and tried not to accumulate much more. And you're right -- it means lots less cleaning!
Posted by: Danielle on 01.01.2008 AT 08:27 PM
Happy New Year and good luck with both of your resolutions.
Happy New Year!!
Go Sandy -- you're off to a good start on both resolutions. Me, I just have "intentions" and "goals." Yes, I know they're enough, but they also have a big old built-in back way out!
Happy New Year, my Sandy!
You'll do great with the posting. Don't worry. Ya know, I really do think that life is better with less stuff. ♥
One day at a time; one drawer at a time... Keep the simplification simple. *So* looking forward to your daily blogging!
Posted by: Beebs on 01.01.2008 AT 05:04 PM
One day at a time, only ten minutes or so -- that's all it takes. Think about your post on the way home from work, and sit right down and do it while the soup is warming up. Or something. :)
Posted by: Norma on 01.01.2008 AT 04:38 PM
I really need to work on simplifying, too. I'll be here to look for inspiration or maybe to just cheer you on. Happy New Year!
You're going to do great! And, simple is never a bad thing.
But, here, maybe this site will help
http://zenhabits.net/
He talks about business things, but also about how to make life simpler....
One drawer a day or a corner or shelf. One spot a day and reorganizing, decluttering, simplifying is doable. Making it into a huge overwhelming project is the opposite of simplifying.
Posted by: Christine on 01.01.2008 AT 04:03 PM
I'll be watching you everyday and cheering you on. You go girl!
Posted by: Pat on 01.01.2008 AT 03:50 PM
Happy New Year, Sandy! I second the motion to clean out the fridge. It's time to get rid of that stuff that we've already had too much of and that stuff we *know* nobody is going to eat.
And did you stop to think that before the year is over WE may need medication? Hmmm? Love ya.
Posted by: Paula on 01.01.2008 AT 03:44 PM
I look forward to reading your blog entries daily. You're the greatest! As to simplicity, I'm all for it! I need to declutter in a big way but will need the help of dh and dd! They are FAR worse than me and don't see it as a problem. :(
Checking in on a break from cleaning my son's room, which was an absolute PIG pen. My 2007 was not great either -- nothing earth shattering, but uninspired nonetheless. I raise a toast to us for 2008!
Here. Have a ham bone.
The fridge is a good place to start.
Good luck with your simplifying! That's a concept I hope to incorporate into my own life this year. And I look forward to reading "Sandy's Knitting" everyday. Happy New Year!
Your first resolution is mine as well, sort of...
Your second resolution is not something I would even try to attempt without first gaining some ground on the first one. I am too cluttered - in mind, body and home - to have the energy, desire or ability to blog daily!
I do, however, look forward to reading your post daily - as a distraction to my fulfilling my only resolution for the year.
Posted by: Kathleen on 01.01.2008 AT 01:54 PM
Happy New Year! Excellent resolutions; just remember Res. 1 if Res. 2 is ever a soul-sucking chore for you. I will definitely stick around, read & comment, and I truly look forward to all of your posts.
Here's to feeling less frazzled!
I hear you on the comments... I got a bunch (10!!!) on a recent post, and boy, was it ever nice!
