01.02.2008 :: 2. Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most~Mark Twain
Imagine my surprise when a box arrives on my porch from my weary looking postman the day before Christmas! The box was duly put under my tree because I could see the return address as being from Norma. I did not open it until Christmas day but it was worth the wait. (It was only 1 day after all, but it just feels better on the day. I'm sure YOU would not have opened it early, would you??) My tree now had a decoration. Not just any decoration but a handknit, handspun pair of mini mittens. How much do I love them? Well, they will not be packed away with the (Cough:cough) REST of the Christmas ornaments. No, they will reside with the mitten collection. (To be shown at a later date. I can't show you everything today, I have to stretch some entries!) She sent yarn too, that Norma. Not just any yarn but some cashmere. Mongolian Cashmere:
(OOPS! I took the wonderful cashmere picture out by accident. Fixed now! Thanks to my grrrls for the alert!)
In a wonderful shade of teal, not haggy at all! ("NOT HAGGY" is our secret way of saying "That color is good for you". Now you are IN on it too!) (go ahead and say it, it makes you feel good)
I don't have to tell you my delight at the receipt of cashmere, do I? I mean, even if you are not a knitter, the word cashmere just fills you with heart palpitations, does it not?
And I can't be the only one that sees the word "Mongolian" and thinks of the South Park episode, can I?
So, I thank you, Norma. You made me feel rich beyond the gifts!
~~
I sometimes think I am losing it. Two discoveries today have me scratching my head.
1. WHY is this picture on my camera?

A picture of my ravelry page. (Ravelry name: Sanhurl, see you there) Beats me. Did I have a point? Did I feel an affinity for that particular page? Can I sufficiently blame Fig for this?
and
2. I found my purse creme without it's cover this morning. Did I put the cover back on? No. I threw the cover back into the depths of the purse. Later? That creme had it's cover back on. It's creepy I tell you. Creepy.
MY PURSUIT OF SIMPLICITY UPDATE:
I indeed cleaned out the refridge yesterday. That feels good. I now have my storage bowls back (all the better to put the leftover split pea soup that is simmering on my stove right now) and today I cleaned my wallet.
That is big, people!
BIG.
(could I have used more sets of parenthesis in today's post?)
(Hmm?)

(no such thing as too many parentheses)

Ahem. Mitten mama? my guild is knitting mittens for kids at Boston Medical center who are going through "intake" with social services (i.e. coming in with sick parent(s) and being sent off to foster care or relatives. Often in their pjs. In the cold. In Boston. Are you getting teary yet?). I need mittens. Wee mittens for wee hands... well, wee hands of 5-9 year olds. :) Oh, and if I have a knit-blogger tea at my casa will you leave your hermitage?? :)

That quote is one of my Dad's favorites!
What a sweet widdle mitten!

That Norma! She certainly knows how to cheer you up! Awesome cashmere- have been meaning to sample it and also with the same pattern in mind!
Semi cleaned my fridge- all the science experiments were tossed. Folded laundry that had been dumped on my dining room table. On a roll baby!

Maybe it's the fine folks inhabiting Hurleyville. Maybe they're really the Borrowers. Maybe I've inhaled too much alpaca.

For you, totally not haggish. Hmmm, let's see:
Haggy
Haggish
To hag
So many variations on the term.
But nice. Who knew those Mongolians made such niceness???

Better parenthesis than exclamation points, I always say ;-) !!!!!!

Ok San...what did you do? The first time I read this post (at work) there was a picture of cashmere...now there is not! You did it...cleaned the fridge? I promised to do so when I feel better...maybe Saturday.;-)

Oh! You're numbering your posts for 365!!!! I love it!!! I'm gonna copy it! Fig! I mean frig!

Purse cream? I must get the details on what in the world is PURSE CREAM. LOL
Oh, San. You always make me laugh. Especially when you make my red handspun mittens look purple-and-red, and you show your Ravelry page (twice!) instead of Mongolian cashmere. And here I was today dissing the Mongolian cashmere. Not very timely of me, was it? :D

OH, and go back and look at your post. I think you meant to have that pic of the Mongolian Cashmere, not the one of your Ravelry page (which is shown twice in the post).

Hi, Sandy.... I have really enjoyed reading your blog, and I'm really enjoying your vegetable soup too! Thanks for sharing your year of simplicity. Maybe you'll get me inspired.... tomorrow I'll clean my refrigerator, and we'll be on a roll together!

Mini mittens. What a fabulous giftie!
Purse gnomes.
Trust me.

What a wonderful present! (Were you playing with your camera and accidentally took a photo?) I think I could use a purse gnome too, to save me from myself. Only it needs to be in my room.
