01.17.2008 :: 17. an 80's flashback kind of a day OR: Is your uvula swollen?
This morning, I woke up with an awful sore throat. Well, that's not quite true as I awoke with it yesterday but today was much, much worse. And swollen glands to boot. As the morning wore on, and the advil took hold, I realized that what I was feeling was not a sore throat in the traditional sense but instead it felt strangly. Like something was IN my throat. So, I went to the bathroom at work with a flashlight and was a bit shocked to find that my uvula was very swollen and about touching my tongue. That explains things. The uvula is the little thingy that hangs down in the back of your throat, referred to in my house as the "courage hangy ball" since it was coined such on an episode of Full House way back. Seems I have an extra dose of courage today. The doctor has advised me to drink lots of ice water (perhaps even a bowl of ice cream will be in my near future? I think I have black raspberry in the freezer!), gargling with salt water and lots of advil on a strict 4 hour schedule. I should live through this.
In my internet research of the swollen uvula, I mostly read about people that drank lots of alcohol the night before. Alas, I did not. I missed out on the "fun" of the night before the swollen uvula. BUT? The good thing? If indeed there is a good thing (and there ALWAYS is a good thing when one is an optimist, isn't there?) I can get a T-SHIRT! <------- Click the link!
Well, isn't that special?
AND.
I wore a new pair of jeans today that are boot cut. And I learned today that I am not fond of the boot cut especially when they are about an inch too long for me. I found myself trying desperately to NOT peg my jeans. <----click~ It was a tough fight. I did not do it. But I SO wanted to. How I miss pegged jeans.
AND.
One amaryllis starting to bloom:

There's a girl in my son's class who was blessed with two hangy balls. Now that's a claim to fame.

Why, oh why, did we ever peg the jeans? I vividly remember a girl in junior high who wore straight legged jeans telling us it was unflattering and we made fun of her for being a dork. . .

Unless the hems of those jeans are literally dragging on the ground, don't touch 'em. Maryse gives good advice.

Eat all the ice cream you want! It's not like we have many chances to take advantage of that! Hope you feel better.

sorry to hear about your swollen uvula. sounds kind of dirty if you ask me ;)
and don't peg your jeans. put on some heels. the bootcut is the way to go especially for those of us with a more ample figure. it balances out the hips. just ask stacy and clinton!

May your ice cream be yummy and your uvula un-swell!

Mmm. hope that uvula is feeling better!
AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES PEG YOUR JEANS. NO NO NO NO NO NOnonononono. OMG no. Get your jeans professionally hemmed - it should cost less than $10 - and you will feel SO much better. And the compulsion to peg will ease, if not disappear completely.
Whew. Glad we nipped that one in the bud.

But boot cut jeans make your legs look longer. Didn't you know?

Now I've seen it all. There really IS a t-shirt for everything! Feel better!

It may be time for Norma to sit in the naughty corner. I'm just sayin'...
I hope you feel better soon, my Sandy. I remember pegging my jeans, but I refuse to figure out how long ago that was. :p

LOL. I ready uvula... I know what a uvula is but that's not the picture I had in my head! It's been a long day. I hope you feel better fast, Sandy! How can you not? You got a doctor to prescribe ice cream!

OMG, my brain does not want to read uvula. It wants to read vulva. And I thought, HOLY COW, is Sandy giving us TOO MUCH INFORMATION tonight, or WHAT?!!!

I can't believe you are talking about a swollen uvula! My sister called me yesterday complaining that her uvula was swollen. I said "Your what!!" She was very worried and then after a couple of hours she realized she had burned her throat the day before from hot pizza.

Oh poor girl, get better soon!

Leave it to Sandy to have something rare. May the ice water work!

Oh yeah, and my kids made me buy boot cut jeans, as if I ever wear boots. The problem with these boot cuts is that they are also quite low cut and it feeling like I'm walking around with that muffin top effect. Sounds like a post to be heh, heh, heh.
