Nobody has posted the obvious "hot coffee," "hot tea," "hot cocoa" - all necessary because around here, it hasn't gotten above freezing in over a week. Maybe the weekend will hit 30's though. In the meantime, I'm off for a hot time at the hairdressers. Need a hot new color for the 'do.

Sandy - I noticed the NEW ENGLAND knitters button on your blog, and was I am curious if you know any knitters in Maryland? When I used the google news search engine for the word MITTENS, there was a letter in the newspaper, at CapeCodOnline about several dozen refugee children who attend an after school program run by the Red Cross and Baltimore Community College who don't have any winter outerwear, including mittens. Ever since Soaring Eagles, I've been doing news searches, and it is really scary how many places in America need children's mittens. I wish there was an address to send winter gear to, I hate to make a long distance phone call to the mom. I spent several hours searching for a snail mail addie, but evidentally there is more than one center which the children attend.
january 18 2008 - Help sought knitting children's outerwear ....Dear Write to Know: I am writing in a personal appeal to any knitters on Cape Cod who would be willing to knit and donate a hat, mittens or a scarf for refugee children in the Baltimore, Md., area. My daughter is the coordinator of the Refugee Youth Project, which includes children from pre-kindergarten to sixth or seventh grade (approximately 45). Most are political refugees who have been resettled in this country, because of strife in their homeland. The children attend the after-school program to help them with assimilation into the community. At Christmas, my daughter mentioned that many of the children had no warm winter clothing, including jackets, shoes and socks. Most did not have hats, mittens or gloves. My daughter started an appeal for jackets and footwear, and I started knitting.
I soon realized that I couldn't do this alone. If anyone can help, I will be....
