01.29.2008 :: 29. Tiny little messages OR: Sugar free and sugar as topics of conversation
Today's entry is brought to you by messages. As consumers, we are used to being bossed around a bit. You know, we don't want to stink so we use deodorant and mouthwash. We want the coolest snacks at the party so we serve Triscuits and cheese.
I found a little mystery message on my Diet Coke can.

See it?

LIVE POSITIVELY, it tells us. Do what the can tells you to do.
Look at the little drawings, cave paintings, if you will. To live a positive life, follow the Diet Coke Code: Drink diet coke in a glass. Exercise. Preferably on your way to the store to buy more diet coke. And then? Drink it right out of the bottle.
Rinse. Repeat.
And living positively? It's a popular thing, just look how much this google search finds on the subject. <---------CLICK for positive living!
250,000 pages! Is it elusive? Is it attainable? Is it unrealistic? Is it a way of life?
The questions are many. The answers few.
Thank BOB we have the diet Coke can to lead us to the answers, no?

AND.
The German word for Sugar is....anybody?
ZUCKER.
Right before Christmas, Bethany's Grammie called her and asked that question of her, the German traveler. When asked WHY she wanted to know, she said she was just "curious". Seems she had come across this find at a church fair and bought them for Bethany.

Just because they are in German. Makes sense in a Grammie kind of way. I think the grandparents had a bit of a "conversation" on whether this would be an appropriate gift, you know, considering the font style of the Zucker bowl?

Although I am not a big fan of the swear word for daily conversation, this little Zucker bowl cracks me up.
Zucker, anyone?

Priceless sugar bowl! I thought you kicked the can! But then you would have missed the subliminal message.

Love the Zucker bowl! That would be oh so appropriate in our house.

My German-speaking Nana (may she rest in peace) would have insisted that there was Absolutely Nothing Funny about that zucker bowl. And my brother and I would have been rolling on the floor howling with laughter. :-)

My Yogi tea bags always have an encouraging saying on them. Just like a fortune cookie. Who knew?
Love the Zucker bowl as well. What an awesome Christmas gift!

Hee! It took me a while to get it though, because I make my "Z"s the same way - with the little line through them. Although "Lif" wouldn't mean anything except in reference to a long ago book I had called "The Meaning of Lif".

I admit it took me a minute to figure out was was objectionable... was it the SHAPE of the bowl? The little pseudo-handle thingies? Hmmm... OH!! I GET IT! It looks like...
Yeah, well, I'm a little slow sometimes. Remember - over 40. PMS.
Too funny.

Zucker to you too.
I'm reminded of seeing a large sign outside the local nursery early in May proclaiming SOD. "Same to you!" Grant and I yelled more or less simultaneously as we drove by.

My morning coffee just went up my nose. That Zucker bowl is a scream. Those wacky Germans!!
LOVE the live positively message from Diet Coke, and drinking pop from a bottle on a hot summer day. And YOU!

I think that little bottle on the Coke can means to mix it with rum :)

I love that bowl! And my mom does the same thing. Gillian spent a semester in Australia and my mom just keeps getting her "Australian" things. Kangaroo things. Some are downright strange, but so Nana.

makes me re-think the whole "one lump or two" question!

There's an old movie (80's?) called 'Zukerbaby' or something... it's in German, I don't remember much about it, but that I enjoyed it (perhaps because it was a bit odd).

Hahahaha - this is not at all what I thought this post was going to be when I first saw the title. Thanks for the giggles. You made my day.

OMG, OMG, OMG, I will pay you $100 for that (F)Zucker bowl!!! I will! Hee. I can't stop laughing. Can't STOP.

Oh yes, we do need marketing to tell us how to live.
I love that little bowl more than you know;-)

That's priceless...sugar or a swearword depending on your mood. This from a good German girl.

I love it. I'd be happy to display that in my house!

As the Queen of Recycling, I noticed the little arrows around the icons that encourage you to recycle. Of course, I also thought the "glass" looked like a mouse and thought "recycle your blog posts?". Good thing I don't blog I guess. :)
