02.05.2008 :: 36. Who voted for the high fructose corn syrup that is what I'd like to know?

voted.gif

And at my polling place?

I voted!

Nary a sign holder or enthusiastic waver in sight. Although I usually hate them with a burning passion? I kind of missed the attention today.
And what else did I see along my way?

car in front of me

I love the SoBe sticker! But I wondered (and still do) what is MHD? Massachusetts Highway Department? I doubt it. MoHawk Delight? My Hot Dog?
I just wonder, that's all.

Woofin Waggin

The Woofin Waggin! Is that a Bed and Breakfast, you may think? No. It's a Bred & Biscuit! Of course.
Next stop? BJ's WHolesale Club to get dinner. After all, a girl busy doing her civic duty cannot be expected to slave over a hot stove. Can she?

Dinner is ready!

Rotisserie Chickens. The best around! (which leaves enough leftovers for a chicken and rice dinner tomorrow night (which is one of my favorite recipes) and then a bonus stock with the bones!)
Who can come out of one of those stores with only 2 chickens anyway. I did find these blueberries! They are delicious and good for you too!

I love these dried blueberries!

All those antioxidants!
Imagine my disappointment when I read the ingredients (when I got home, unfortunately). Shouldn't the ingredients read:
Ingredients: Blueberries.

I am TICKED about it!

Way to ruin some good blueberries, Wylers! pfft!

ADDED:
I would like to find a book club to join or start one near my home. I would travel a 1/2 hour or so but not more. Anyone know of one in my area? Or would anyone like to join one if I start it? (Don't know my area? Comment to me and I'll tell ya) I'm craving intellectual conversation about words. (not blog words, you know, page words)
:D

Hi Sandy - I gave a "virtual book group" a whirl on my blog, on the book Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I'm a new blogger, but got an absolute ton of traffic that day -for whatever reason, only a few brave souls participated in the "discussion" (really just answers to questions I posed in the comments). You have a ton of readers - you might want to think about proposing a virtual "read along" followed by a discussion on a given date. Not quite the same as a "live" book group, but maybe fun? I'd do it again myself, but I feel like I don't have enough regular visitors to get a lot of velocity.

Have you tried Meetup.com for book clubs? They usually have a bazillion going on at all times. And other social events as well.

Local bookstores are great for knowing about book clubs that are looking for members or as a way to find other people who'd like to start a group. Even our Barnes and Noble has information at times. I'm in Baltimore or I'd invite you to join my group! And I heartily agree that blueberries should be the only ingredient in blueberries!

That's crazy that they added high fructose corn syrup to blueberries. Don't food makers get it, it's fruit it's naturally icky sweet, and if it's not, then it must not be that fresh.

Can you wash the gunk off the blueberries, or is it too late for them? :-)

And nobody gave me a sticker yesterday. Harrumph!

Until you find a real life book club, might I suggest that you give a look at Readerville.com? Not the same thing as sitting around with real people perhaps, but you can do it in your pajamas! We're a very bookish bunch and if you can't find words on books you're interested in, well, just ask for help.

Check with your library re: book club. If they don't already have one they may be willing to start one. Or they may know of others in your area. Those librarians are pretty smart cookies.

The really sad thing is that blueberries without the high fructose corn syrup - which, by the way, does not appear in nature but is manufactured (corn is not high in fructose) - are MORE EXPENSIVE. That's right - the longer the ingredients list, the more expensive the item. So gross.

My building is a polling place and it was quiet today, too. No fanfare at all.

They were handing out Obama stickers *inside* the caucus venue here!

MHD? Well I can think of one, but you'd get rather interesting google searches afterwards! Sorry.....

And the Flickr photo request? Maybe it's that guy named Joe from MySpace using an alias. *weeping with laughter* after re-reading your post about him.

Too punchy here..... cue to exit and go straight to bed!

OH don't get me started on that ingredients list. Nor the "organic green beans" from China. I do love the thrifty way you have with chickens, though -- THREE meals! That's a New Englandah for ya!!!! I'm so proud.

Hey, do you think those people asking permission to use your photo are for real or SPAMMERS?

Posted by: Norma on 02.05.2008 AT 09:18 PM

Try your library. Ours has a great book club.

I vote for Marblehead;-)
Enjoy your dinner and a relaxing evening. You deserve it after votin!

I'm pretty damn sure Mother Nature never 'intended' to have 3 different kinds of sugar added to blueberries. Yikes.

Hello,

I'm currently working on a book project for a design firm in Berkeley, California. We came across one of your photos on Flickr, and was wondering if we could ask your permission to include your photo in our book. If you could get back to me at yoonjuc@yahoo.com, I'd be happy to fill you in with the details. Thank you for your time and interest.

Best Regards,

YoonJu Chung

My hometown of Sioux City, Iowa has a sticker. It's the airport code - SUX. How's that for a great marketing name!? I'm in Westport, CT if you want to come read with our group.

Your blueberries need a big black and white sticker that says HFCS.

I saw banana chips at the grocery store this morning and thought of you. It's a shame people have to ruin blueberries with all that crap.

Posted by: Cookie on 02.05.2008 AT 06:30 PM

I'd join you to talk about books.

How come you get to vote around the block from me and I have to travel across town?

Sometimes it's just better for your mental health to not read labels at all (grin). I wouldn't have expected all that on that ingredient list, either--blueberries, maybe some sort of preservative, but . . . what more do yu need??

Posted by: --Deb on 02.05.2008 AT 06:11 PM

High fructose corn syrup. I guess it really IS in everything.
