02.19.2008 :: 50. heartfelt mermaids, er, thanks

WOW! You sure know how to make a girl feel special, don't you! I figure it's one of two things.
1. You either like me
or
2. You LOVE the offer of free Judy's yarn. Who wouldn't really?
Be sure to go back and take the poll about the virtual book club. I'm going to think about the wheres, whats and whys and let you know what I come up with.
How do I adequately thank all of you who have made this blog part of my life. I appreciate you coming back here everyday and reading my thoughts. I appreciate you laughing with me and even crying with me, giving out hugs or lifting me when I need support.
We've had some times, haven't we?
~sniff.

OKAY, then. I have a story about coincidence for you. And first I ask you this: When is something just a coincidence and when does it mean SOMETHING? The world may never know, of course.
Yesterday, I was thrilled to get comments from new to me people. I love it when people climb out of the woodwork. But one in particular. You see, I had just said to Bethany, "Your hair is so long right now!" and she said "I am going to grow it until it is Mermaid hair"
Or something like that. Mermaid hair? I had to have her explain it to me. You know when a mermaid comes out of the sea, her hair falls to the front of her body and covers her...well, you know, chest area. Cute, I think, while clicking to the next message to read. It is from someone named Tee, whose blog name is Mermaid Rock. Now, I never in the course of casual conversation talk about Mermaids. Not since the kids were little and we used to live for the Little Mermaid anyway. It has been years since thinking the word Mermaid. And yet, here it is twice in one minute. Weird. WEIRD. What does it mean? We chuckle a bit, nervously like we may be missing a sign, Bethany and I. And then? I go to Nina's blog to see her daily blog entry (she is one of the crazy's too, but you did not hear it from me) and she links to a person with a funny cat story. Which blog was the link going to? You guessed it! Mermaid Rock.
Okay. Now? I'm just getting goosebumps. WHAT DOES IT MEAN??
I know I'm missing out on some kind of Mermaid message.

Not a mermaid:
Lamb puppet
It looks like a mitten but is actually an Estonian Hand Puppet from Spin Off Summer 2006! I needed a bit of a break from the Flyingdales knitting. A small break, not a hibernation. Sometimes you just need to knit something cute.
But to reiterate: a sheep puppet is NOT a mermaid. Not now. Not ever.

P.S. Thank you, again! So many comments!

I love these puppets and bought the issue just for them. I cannot wait to see yours and it will probably make me start one. Inspiration!

Cool mittens! I don't think I have the patience for them, but maybe some other winter :-)

The blue and white section looks a bit mermaid-y to me...but then, all this talk of mermaids has me thinking mermaids. Can I just say how happy I am that Dobby grew out of her Little Mermaid obsession? ;o)

Unless it's a mermaid sheep?

Ooh, those puppets are just the cutest thing ever.

I love those sheep puppets! Yours will be so cute.

Oh! That issue with the hand puppets made me subscribe. But I still haven't knit any. So far, I think it looks like a murder (flock) of crows. But that's probably just me.

Interesting synchronicity! If you figure it out let us know. :D

Weird...MERMAID!

I just finished eating salmon. Clearly it was meant to be mermaid! LOL Oh, I crack myself up.

I think it means you should choose The Mermaid Chair for your first selection in the virtual book club. I can help you with that if you want.

Maybe you're meant to knit a Mermaid sweater?

And, silly Sandy--it's YOU we love! We may not be adverse to the thought of free yarn (we ARE knitters, after all), but would we even be here to comment if we didn't like YOU??

Rarely has my hair been long enough to qualify, although it was before I cut it the last time, but I have been known to appear in public in a mermaid costume. A slightly different species, with scales all the way up to the neck.

& I used to have mermaid hair.

Hmmm, I just send a birthday card with a mermaid on it to a friend! Truly! Weird, weird, weird.

OMG, that hand puppet is the cutest thing ever!

LizB writes a good blog - and I know about the mermaid serendipity. That sort of thing happens to me all the time. The other day, Julie and I were, unbeknownst to each other, considering renting the same movie. Bruce Almighty. Who rents THAT? We both passed it up but later discovered we had been thinking of it at the same time.

Universe. Has. Meaning.

(Or we'd better hope so).

OH! And thanks for the cable patterns! I haven't tried them yet as I am still in heavy sock addiction, but I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks!!!
