03.01.2008 :: 60. One day off and all hell breaks loose
I missed you yesterday. I have to say that since January 1st, blogging every day was not quite as painful as NOT blogging for that one day. I kept having a start "OH! I DID NOT BLOG!" which is my biggest "fear" of this daily blogging. That I'll just go about my day, all happy and busy and totally forget to blog. All day yesterday I had that vague feeling that I had forgotten something. An unease. But I am at my best when challenged! And the powers that BE challenged us NOT to blog.
So, I'm blogging today, historically the worst blog day. I hate Saturdays in blogland. Hardly anyone comments, everyone's out having some kind of life. And leading a life is one of the biggest dangers to blogging! (haha)
Yesterday I got the idea that I want to make a hat for a coworker who is, unfortunately going through cancer treatments and has lost her hair. This is her second go around with cancer and most likely her last battle as the outlook is pretty bad and the cancer is quick growing and extensive. She is, needless to say, miserable and sick and freezing cold all the time. Amongst other things. And all I can think to do is knit for her. I spent many an hour fiddling with the details.
Usually my inspiration for projects is very absolute. I will make THIS with THAT yarn. Period. No debate. No wishy washy.
This was a vague idea of a project that had no shape or form.
A hat. For a coworker.
So many choices.
Which hat. Which yarn. And do they go together. I tried to come up with a yarn in my stash but either it was too thick or thin a yarn or just a color that did nothing for me. Which pattern? So many to choose from. Hats galore out there. Ravelry is indispensible in this area.
A little trip to the yarn store this morning gave me this to work with:

I fondled many a yarn looking for the perfect softness for a sensitive hairless, cold head. None other holds a candle to the cashmerino aran.
I settled into the Koolhaas hat pattern and purchased it from the Interweave website when I noticed that it was printed in the Interweave Knits Holiday Knits, 2007, which I OWN! Which is good because I am out of ink in the printer and I did not know how I was going to settle into the couch with a pattern that I could not print out because I am too damned lazy to get up and go spend a ridiculous amount of money on ink, in fact, I can actually buy a whole printer for LESS money than ink but now I don't have to worry about it because I have the magazine and I now own 2 of these patterns.
(Taking a deep breath after such a run on sentence)
The rest of today, you can find me on the couch (in all my sickness:COUGH:SNIFF) watching endless episodes of the Northern Exposure DVD from Netflix. And if I'm lucky, some snoozing. Because nothing heals like snoozing. And some tea.

I am so sorry about your friend, and your cold, and Derek's car. It's really not fair when Monday comes on a Saturday.

I am speechless in that I just started a hat for a cancer patient as well today in DB Cashmerino Aran but in the 502 color. Your color of yarn is my very favorite color ever. It is gorgeous!

I find no rhyme or reason for good or bad comment days. Just doesn't seem to be a pattern for me. Same with hits. Totally unpredictable. Unless that Sandy lady mentions my pattern in a post.

The hat will be lovely ~ and your kindness surely appreciated.
I'm coveting the Northern Exposure episodes, but last night I watch Truly, Madly, Deeply so I'm not too jealous.

I'll give you a Saturday comment to cheer you up (although it looks like you already have a bunch).
I'm sick too... I hope we're both better soon!
It's annoying to buy something and then realize you already have it, isn't it. *sigh*. However, Jared will get some $ from the purchase, and I think that is a good thing. :) You could have a contest where the prize is the PDF version... and awarding the prize won't even cost you more in shipping!

Good luck with the hat project. Feel better soon.

Not happy to hear you're not well! Enjoy knitting with that yummy yarn...it will make a very nice gift for your friend.

But if we don't lead a life then we'll have nothing to blog about.

Yeah, I liked that line about having a life being detrimental to blogging, too (grin). And hey, I'm here--and I even posted a Sky picture this morning and everything!
Cashmerino? Oh, it's hard to imagine anything beating that for softness ....

Mmmmmm...snoozing. Sounds delightful!

Ooh that'll be one gorgeous hat and even if it doesn't bring healing it's sure to bring comfort and warmth. My red sweater is cashmerino bulky and I can't even wear a coat with that thing, the girl from Louisiana actually gets too warm when she wears the right sweater :)
Tea, now that does sound good. Time to break out the harmonica kettle! Hope you feel better.

Hey!
I have no life! (apparently)
I'll leave a comment -- just for you!
Actually, I worked this morning, then supervised a birthday party this afternoon, and now I have to go pick out a skein of blog prize yarn and photograph it and write two blog posts and take a Saturday Sky picture and scan some old photographs for one of the posts. I guess that's kind of a life, even if half of it is bloggy. Oh, and a little knitting happened whilst the party was going on.
On second thought, it sounds like I need a nap.

P.S. CRACKED UP at "leading a life is one of the biggest dangers to blogging." SO TRUE. Heh.

Awwww, San! Chicken soup! I wish I could make you some. I was wondering where you were. Hadn't heard from you all day and was getting worried. Cashmerino Aran is a lovely, soft yarn. It does pill, BUT, the pills are self-limiting. You'd get that first, "Oh, NO! It's pilled something awful" feeling, but that only lasts a minute. I'm telling you this so you don't panic when you see it. After that, it's all good. (I have wristers made with it and still love them after three seasons.)

I'm here! I'm knitting up little booties to go with the little sweater that is blocking on the dining room table. My knitting spot is right next to the computer so I keep popping into Ravelry and onto bloglines and into blogs! :)
Cashmerino Aran is supreme! That will be a warm and soft hat. It is good of you to make it.
