04.09.2008 :: 99. Save a tree: Save some plastic pellets

green bagging
green bagging
I have a vision of us all using those wonderful grocery bags and saying NO THANK YOU to all the plastic bags. No paper or plastic for us, thank you WE BROUGHT OUR OWN!
Who's in? I envision calling this the Green Bagging Movement! (When we bring our lunches to work, it's called brown bagging. Bringing grocery bags with us to the store? Green Bagging!)
Snitch the button that wonderful Margene made me! Make one of your own, leave a link here and we'll go and steal yours! Always, needless to say, being thoughtful and saving to our own servers but of course. (THANK YOU, MAHHHGENE!)
~~~
I heard this song 2 times today and then I heard an interview with REM on NPR. (LOL! PDQ, ASAP, MYOB, BYOB,CEO, HEH, ROFL) (I could not stop with the acronyms once I began)
Is it a sign? Am I losing my religion? Is it our Green Bagging anthem?
Could you address green bagging etiquette? i.e. Using Krogers reusable bags at Target.
The WF policy of no plastic bags, only paper has really encouraged me to bring my own reusable bags. The only problem is how to deal with cleaning the kitty box without using those plastic grocery bags....
I'm in too!
I already do this and I love it. The store downstairs from me doesn't want me to use my own bag for some weird reason, so I bring my used bags back to them once a week. This confuses them, too, but I know they reuse them. Yay!
We've been carrying our own bags to grocery stores for about a year now and it's been great. Weird thing happened to a friend of mine and me at a yarn shop. I told the owner that she didn't need to give me a bag for my purchases because I could just put them in my own bag. When we were leaving the woman behind us said, "oh they're young..they don't need bags"...Huh??
Does it count if I cut up a bunch of the plastic bags that are currently cluttering my kitchen cupboards and crochet them into big, sturdy reusable bags? That way, at least they will be put to repeated use (and won't be going into the landfill.)
I want to knit my own. I spent an hour on Ravelry yesterday trolling for "market bag" patterns.
Unfortunately, by the time I get around to knitting one, global warming will have flooded my supermarket. I need to buy some canvass ones, or at least reuse the paper.
How does one remember to BRING them shopping?
I'm in on the bags! I take my own all the time. Still getting strange looks from some people where I live, but it's catching on. I'm slowly seeing more and more people with their own bags.
Great idea!!!
I love REM and I'm in! I already have the bags, but forget them in the car all the time.
Definitely count me in. We've been doing this for a while now and it's easy.
I'm in. Kewl button. I don't do all the shopping at our house, but when I do, I'll be green.
Oh my! REM in concert. I literally got a tear in my eyes when I saw Michael Stipe start dancing. I love him!
My husband and my first date was to a REM concert in 1986. We went almost every year after that until we had kids.
Memories!
