04.14.2008 :: 104. would be a high fever
~I finished The Book Thief. I am stunned and had to pause to cry for a bit. What a book! I hope you are reading it too. (Who's reading it? Who is waiting for it still? Can we set a date?) I have not read a book so moving in a long time.
~I'm trying hard not to pepper my writing with so many exclamation points. (!) After a conversation about !THEM! with Norma, I realized that I am always emphatically talking!!! But then I realized that by using them (!) I am diminishing their effectiveness. !! So, I hereby claim that this is my last exclamation point! The last. Unless I really really need one. Or two.
~I was asked by blogless Janeanne:
Could you address green bagging etiquette? i.e. Using Krogers reusable bags at Target.
Well, Perhaps I am in a minority, but it doesn't bother me to use a bag from one store in another. (and I have to admit that I forgot the shopping bags yesterday and could have clobbered myself. (!) Perhaps, though, this would be a good case for stores to make a universal bag not one with their names on them. I suppose that is like asking for the moon for a present, though, right? Do you feel funny about taking a bag from one store into another? Thoughts for Janeanne?
~I did not plan to write one word tonight. I was going to put up this picture:

and call it a day. That is the funniest sign! (OOPS! There's another. And another) It is posted at the local beach, down the street from me. I am a lucky girl, having a beach AND a sign about poop nearby.
~and then, I was going to post this picture:

This house is on my walking route and I've always loved the doorway. I have had a thing about doors from way back. As long as I can remember. They fascinate me. This one is so wonderful looking but must be so impractical to live with. No screen door to open the door to let the light and the breeze inside. I'd hate it personally. But I look at it every time I pass.
~I have not knit a stitch since I messed up the center stitch on the wonderful Forest Canopy Shawl. I tried to fix it but then gave up and kept reading The Book Thief. Glad I did.
~Even though the flyingdales does not fit me (!!!!!) :) I am dying to work on it again. I refuse to mention here that I am on a bit of a lifestyle change and perhaps in a year or two or perhaps a lifetime away, that sweater may fit me. A goal of sorts. But I did not mention it here. And I won't. Because as soon as I announce something, it's done. I'm sure a therapist would have a blast with that one if indeed I would talk about it but I won't. Talk about it. So don't say the word DIET because it's a lifestyle. Yeah.
~I just added "flickr" to my spell check dictionary because I'm tired of it telling me to check it's spelling.
~!
~Okay, I'll start limiting the exclamation points after this entry!! A girl has to have some fun, right? !!
~I was so grumpy and blue feeling today that I couldn't stand myself. I hate it when that happens.
~I'm done now. Happy??!!!!!!
:D

Thank-you for putting my green bagging question to your readership. All the comments were very helpful. I agree with Laurel's mom and Cookie. Stores should be glad I'm shopping there and not somewhere else. That's the attitude I'll be taking from now on. I have just started reading the "Book Thief" and I'm looking forward to a good cry! Thanks for the warning. I'll get the tissues ready!

Hmm. Love the door. I'm also an over-user of the exclamation point. I'm also one that ... oh, for example... if I mention on the blog that I'm embarking upon a major lifestyle change like maybe weight loss (!) ... it instantly means that I won't do it but many other people will be incredibly inspired by my motivational blogging speeches about said effort, and THEY all lose 50 pounds a piece. Just love that. Ugh.

I feel weird with bags from the wrong store, but my mom says they don't care where your bag is from as long as you are shopping there.

Having a goal of wearing the flyingdales could work out very well. My DH gave me a beautiful gold bracelet one Christmas, and even though it was a large size, I couldn't wear it. Wanting to wear that bracelet helped keep me on my diet (115 lb. gone and counting). It rattles around on my wrist. VBG!

I take my GIANT bags in everywhere, I am not picky, and neither are most cashiers.
Oh I feel bad for the man that has to wear the badge claiming to be Officer Poopa Trooper.

!!!!You did it to annoy me, didn't you?!!!!
I have a collection of window pictures, thinking I might get around to painting them someday. Ha!

I don't think there's a problem with using the bags at whatever store you go to.

That's so funny about exclamation points! I gave up emoticons this year -- in blog posts only! I still allow myself use them in comments and emails. I still WANT to use them in posts and it's funny how often I catch myself.
Love that door. DH & I actually had a little collection of doors once.

I always use my Wegman's bags at Wal-mart. Though, really since no one in my town even knows what a Wegman's is, it doesn't matter I guess. But I feel no shame in using a bag from another store to shop. I just feel good that I'm doing something green.

Your exclamation points are part of your charm. Go with them, girl.
I love doors, too. I also love tombstones. Shut up! I mean that in the most innocent of ways - they are fascinating - especially the really really old ones. Hey, an idea for a post!
The poop sign? Hee!

wow, you really read that quickly! I'm plugging along and hope to meet the deadline when you choose one.

I'm scared of all of your commenters.
I was going to say... even those of us who have done FC before... may have to put it down from time to time in frustration. Mine has been on time out for ... a week or so.
ellipsis are my downfall :D

Of course, there are times when you have to use exclamation points--there's just no choice. But, yeah, I TRY to keep them under control, too.

I'm reading! Just got startedlast night, so I'm a bit behind you. I was pretty sure I sniffed a tearjerker in this one, now I know. Thanks for the warning =)

Ack!!!!! I missed the book announcement. darn speed reading. I'll see if I can catch up. Is there a due date?
Yeah, those lifestyle changes...I dare not tell anyone or the change is doomed. Well, most of the time. Hope your day went well and was a happy day. :D

Oh, and the bag thingy?
With the economy and customer service the way they are, I feel like retailers are lucky I'm shopping in their stores at all. I'm using whatever bags I want.
Then again, we all know about me. o.0

Do you ever get the feeling that Norma's kind of love might be somewhat painful?

Love the sign! Love the door! Love Fig!
♥

do you see how sneaky Norma is? She takes the high road with the exclamation point and then proceeds to capitalize words. Something is not right there.
I say if you're on a lifestyle high, you've got enough limitations and should exclaim to your heart's content!!!!!!!!!
ps. when I read Marcia's comment I thought for a moment there she asked if you wanted that on your couscous! (a phrase I shall henceforth adopt).

I'm reading the book but I'm finding it slow reading so far. Although that could be because I read in bed before going to sleep, and lately, I've been exhausted so I tend to fall asleep.
Posted by: Chris on 04.14.2008 AT 08:34 PM
I do use lots of exclamation points in my email and blog post...I don't care if no one likes it and that goes for you and Norma. :-D
I do love doors, too and have a thing for colored doors.

Your use of exclamations is one of the main reasons I read your blog. And if I don't read your blog, I'll probably not read any blog. And if I don't read any blog, I'll probably lose all reason for living. I'm pretty sure you don't want that on your conscious?
Posted by: Marcia on 04.14.2008 AT 08:14 PM
I think it wouldn't be so green if I didn't view my bags as universal no matter what name they have on them. I definitely use them any and everywhere I can remember them. I'm really trying hard to remember them other things in addition to groceries.
I TiVo'd the Mermaid Chair today, am I the only one who didn't know it had been made into a movie? I'll be watching that tomorrow during knitting time.
I'm about halfway through the Book Thief and find it an engaging read so far.
Posted by: Julie on 04.14.2008 AT 08:11 PM
Wow! You're done with the book already? I'm reading it now. Hope I finish before the discussion.
As far as bag etiquette goes, I think it's fine to use any store's bags in another store.
Love the sign. ;-)

BUT! You know there's an exception to every rule, right? You announced that you were going to do Blog 365, and YOU'RE STILL DOING IT. And I won't let you stop. So, just TRY and stop your lifestyle. I'll kill you. Wait, that came out wrong. LOL
XOXO

hmmm funny. i didn't even notice that you use too many exclamation points. when i read your posts, i just get the feeling that you are always very excited and happy! that's not a crime, is it?
i use dashes too much -- i'm working on it.
as for the etiquette of bags, i use whichever bag i have in my car. i have a couple from stop n shop, a couple from shaws and a great one from trader joes. sometimes i need to bring all of them with me. i don't think the stores give a shit.
