04.21.2008 :: 111. A Nelson*

New sneakers
While it's no marathon, I walked my 1.4 miles today all the while thinking about those marathoners. I always love to watch the running (on television, not in person) on this day just to watch in awe. There is so much excitement in the air, so much hope. I only watch the beginning of the race, before the reality of the 26 miles sets in. The winner ran the race in 2 hours 7 minutes. That is simply amazing. I walked 1.4 miles in a little under 30 minutes. No one will cheer that on. I think I could not drive 26 miles in record time. I wonder how they do it. I admire them. They inspire me to walk my measly 1.4 miles and get that turtle moving on his merry way towards his 100 miles. Can he do it? I'm not sure but maybe. I hope anyway.
It sure feels like a marathon to me at this point.

*111 = a Nelson. It's true. Apparently an Admiral Nelson had that darling nickname because towards the end of his life, the poor dear had, and I quote, "One eye, One arm and One ball". Which I'm sure referred to the number of formal dances he attended in his life.
Yes.

Go little turtle, go!

Yayyyyyy, my San! Right now it feels like my brains are made of scrambled eggs, so I think I'll go out and survey my garden kingdom for a while. Maybe when I come back I can be more coherent. :)

I am cheering you on for your walking! I have gotten back on the wagon (wait that would be cheating if I am walking, wouldn't it?) and have started walking again since the weather has permitted. I admire the marathoners too and each year have an experience with Boy Scouts that makes my walking seem very non-existent. The boys in our troop do a 40 mile hike in one day (yes forty). The hike this year was last Saturday and we had more than 15 boys finish the whole 40. They have 13 hours to do it in, and we've actually had a kid do it in under 7 hours one year. And I am proud of myself for 2 1/2 to 3 miles?! I get blisters just watching them (actually, mine were on my hand, from scooping out dough for more that 28 dozen chocolate chip cookies for the finishers...thank goodness for a big church kitchen with huge commercial ovens.)

I dug out my cute little cheerleader skirt and matching sweater, took hold of my pompoms, and here I am cheering you on: http://www.snowflake-designs.com/images/Cheerleader-Hippo-Christmas-Ornament.jpg

I'll cheer you on - that's fantastic! I'll never run a marathon; I don't think I'll even get to jog (I've always wanted to be able to jog, just so I can get the workout over faster), and that's okay. So long as we're moving -that's what really matters. I almost want to get a blog, just so I can get myself a turtle ticker ;-)
