04.22.2008 :: 112. Embracing my inner non-Martha with wrinkles in my tablecloth or: the number of the day is 1

The morning sun was shining in on my wrinkled tablecloth setting the mood for the whole day. This has been the kind of wonderful weather day that inspires regular people to write poetry. The perfect kind of day with temperatures in the 60's, a light breeze keeping it comfortable and some puffy white clouds showing off above. The sun is warm and bright and inspiring.
Even though I ruined my most favorite pair of jeans in the world this morning as I was trying to run out of the house late (AGAIN) for work (the zipper totally fell apart. Teeth everywhere. Not a thing a dentist likes to see or a woman late for work. Ever) this day has been beautiful.
EARTH DAY POEM by Jane Yolen
I am the Earth
And the Earth is me.
Each blade of grass,
Each honey tree,
Each bit of mud,
And stick and stone
Is blood and muscle,
Skin and bone.
And just as I
Need every bit
Of me to make
My body fit,
So Earth needs
Grass and stone and tree
And things that grow here
Naturally.
That's why we
Celebrate this day.
That's why across
The world we say:
As long as life,
As dear, as free,
I am the Earth
And the Earth is me.
~~~
The Day in Review: OR: Why the number of the day is 1.
Number of pairs of jeans I ruined? 1
Time I was late for work? 1 hour
Enchiladas that I ate for lunch when I should have eaten my turkey sandwich? 1
Number of bowls of veggie soup that I'll now have for dinner? 1
Time that I will walk today? 1 (Half an hour)
Times I cheated on this 1 list? 1. That 1 (half and hour) instead of writing 1/2 an hour.
How many earths do we have? 1. So let's take care of it, k?
The alteration booth at our mall replaces jeans zippers - not all that expensive and I'm cheap about stuff like that. Besides I'd have a difficult time parting with my favourite jeans.
Clearly there's something wrong with Cookie. Ironing? Blech!
Sorry about your jeans.
Happy earth day!
This is embarrassing: I did not know it was Earth Day today. But all day long I was thinking about having a really nice clothesline installed. Must be I knew it was Earth Day, but just didn't THINK I did. :)
It just blows that your zipper blew! Love you table cloth. The photo looks like it could be taken in a favorite aunt or my mothers kitchen.
Can you install a new zipper? Did you know that I enjoy ironing? Is that wrong? If it is, do I wanna be right? Did I mention loving that poem? Think I'm full of questions today? ;^)
Well, at least you use a tablecloth. Both my kitchen and dining rooms have naked tables!
