05.14.2008 :: 134. My daughter opened the mailbox....

and got chlamydia*. It's true.
microbes
I laughed so hard I thought I would split a seam. The envelope was from Giant Microbes and I could see the listing on the sales slip as chlamydia and syphilis pox. I do believe I said, "Um, why is someone mailing you chlamydia?" If I'm not too nosy in asking. She answered: "Oh, my friend Kate *name changed to protect the disease ridden* must have sent it to me".
Well. Silly me.
You must go to the website and peruse all the microbes. Bethany and I laughed until we cried. That is some great stuff.
*No actual diseases were contracted at the mailbox.

I love the Giant Microbes. I have a flesh eating bacteria and an E. coli. One of my friends has the Clap. I usually keep mine in the office, where they are a source of amusement for everybody.

This too funny! I think I need to give Grant the Black Death.

Those are too funny. I must send oneto my sister but I just can't decide if I should go for an STD, a Malady or a calamity. They all have a high amusement quotient.

So funny! Our pediatrician was telling us about this site just Monday.

Oh, those things are all over my office. We have at least 4 complete sets (we got them as Christmas gifts from our director). Everyone's always tossing "chlamydia" and "giarda" at each other... we also have huge boxes of tinker toys b/c it makes building structures easier. Oh, and play foam for proteins. Sometimes you just need to get visual. The Flu is on my monitor right now.

We gave my daughter an ulcer before she went off to college just so she could say, "I'm so glad to be away from home...my parents gave me an ulcer!"

We thought it was funnier than she did, I think, though she did like the ulcer.

I was immediately attracted to Black Death, but when I clicked it, it looked an awful lot like ... well, never mind. :D

Should I be concerned that my daughter wants herpes??

Posted by: Karen on 05.14.2008 AT 07:03 PM

Well, there are certainly worse ways of getting germs! These are actually kind of cute....

I gave my mom Giardia and Shigella for a past birthday!

And she even liked it!

(She's a retired med tech who specialized in bacteriology. Yep, same cute little stuffed plush bacteria.)

But this year: I *knit* her, her very own E. coli! I decided this one was beneficial GI flora, though, he's pretty cute:

She says she likes him! She even said so in my blog comments! What a great mom.
