05.29.2008 :: 148. I was attacked (unprovoked) by Pam and a radish discussion

pam.jpg

Pam did it, in the kitchen with a finger wound.
Yesterday I was reaching in my way too high for me cabinet to get the rice and the Pam can fell. And due to a mystery chain of events that most likely had something to do with my hand reaching up to "catch" it (Like I've ever been able to "catch" anything in my life: read, NOT ATHLETIC) making more of a forceful impact, I now have myself an injured index finger on my left hand. Top knuckle to tip of the finger is a bruise that hurts more than I would have ever believed. I would have said something like "Suck it up, Buttercup" to one of my kids if it had been them. (That's our favorite family phrase) Small injury. Big pain. At least it's my left hand.
But? The letters T, R, G, V, B and F are killers. It ~ow~ g~ow~es somet~ow~hing~ow like t~ow~his.
Now, about Radishes:
It's true. I have never, as far as I remember eaten a radish. I have never had the urge if I'm to be truthful. I never knew anyone to rave over the radish like Norma. She makes it seem positively heavenly! So I will be heading to my local farm stand and buying a radish. Can you buy one radish?
Do you like them?

Radishes for me

It's a special day when I can haiku a radish.

Regarding the Pecker plant? (I know! I keep saying it!)
Here it is.

I have that pecker plant on my kitchen windowsill! Actually I split it up and have it at work too, but no peckers on that one right now. Hate the radishes, well, except for daikon which I like very much. DH used to grow them, because they are so frikkin easy and come up so early, but then he'd eat only a few and nobody else would eat any! Once I sliced my wrist open with a box of saran wrap. It was industrial sized (5 pounds), up high, and fell as I reached for it. I slammed my wrist shut with my other hand and rather pale-faced walked out of the kitchen, across the bio station camp to find the director, who was standing with the ass't director... anybody know first aid? Director blanched. AD says come with me. Patches me up quick and tight, then off across 5 miles of water to a car and a 20 minute drive to the nearest thing like a hospital to get it stitched up.

I kept checking your site last night and DID NOT SEE THIS. And tonight when I saw you on Bloglines, I thought it was TONIGHT'S post. But no. Anyhoo, sorry I'm late to the radish-and-pecker party. :D

Yeah, radish sandwiches = French. Slather nice bread with butter, add radish slices. Eat.

This is NOT TO SAY that I am waiving my right to sue you for stealing my PHOTO! Hee. XOXO

Oh and butter on radishes I think is a French thing. My mom always served them that way like Maryse.

Posted by: Manise on 05.30.2008 AT 03:51 PM

Heh- we have penis mushrooms that grow in the wood chip mulch out back each fall. They seem to attract lots of little black flies too.TMI? Sorry ;-)

Hope the finger heals soon.

I had a radish for the first time recently, and it was really quite refreshing! I thought it would be bitter, or heavy, but not at all. It was lovely.

I hope you find you like them too :)

Hmmm. I was willing to give mom the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was short for woodpecker plant. I guess not.

Heh heh - your plant makes me giggle.

Radishes? Make me gag. Well, not gag, more like a horse getting wormer paste and the tongue goes plh plh plh until the paste is dripping all over. So suck it up Buttercup is what you'd say when serving me a radish.

Posted by: Chris on 05.30.2008 AT 10:09 AM

heh heh you said pecker.

you've never even had a sliver of radish in a salad?

anyway a good radish is peppery with a bit of a bite. and crunchy. and are very good dipped in salt and eaten with butter.

however, i must admit that if i never eat a radish again, it's not like i'll be all broken up about it.

Suck it up Buttercup-tat is great. I will need to incorporate that into my daily life.

And um, yeah I can see why that is a "pecker plant".

How is Fig?

My stupid human trick in the kitchen involved a knife and cutting two fingers rather deeply. That was Friday...today they are starting to heal. Life is tough in the kitchen!
We call that a penis plant, too....why mince words? You could cut yourself.

Radishes are quite tasty. Especially with a little salted butter. No kidding.

Sorry about the injury. And as to the plant? Ew.

Posted by: Nora on 05.30.2008 AT 07:13 AM

That, my dear friend, is an antherium plant. Around here, though, we call 'em penis flowers.
Hope that finger feels better fast.

Hey, Pam was just trying to escape. I'm sure it was all innocent and stuff. ;)
You radishes look ravishing this morning. But I'm still a tomato man, myself.

We call those little boy orchids where I live.

Posted by: Charlotte on 05.29.2008 AT 11:49 PM

I can... see why she would call it that. *snicker* (Hi, I am 12.)

Hope your finger feels better soon!

Radishes are good. That being said, I don't think they are the kind of thing you go without all your life and when you finally have one, you find yourself angry at the world, or at least your mother, for withholding knowledge of such a epicurean delight.

But, they're good.

Oh yeah, they give you incredibly bad burp breath.

But they're good.

Radishes are yummy! Love 'em.

I hope your finger feels better right away.

I love radishes. Usually you buy them in bunches. They're easy to grow and it doesn't take long before they're ready to eat.

I have one of those plants too! So that's what it's called! :D Figures you would know. Running around with the wild crowd you do.

Love radishes. Have grown radishes in the past. Really should mail you some seeds.

I hope your finger feels better soon.

Yes, I really like radishes. And I have just found a bunch of recipes that I am planning on trying soon.
