06.28.2008 :: 178. What's with today today*
I planned on doing a Philosophy give away today but I can't drag myself to the other room to take pictures and string some thoughts together so that you will want to try them.
Seriously, though, when I DO have the giveaway? You should really put your name in for it. I rely on their products to cleanse, moisturize and refresh my face. I can't say enough about them and I'd even get all melodramatic and say that Philosophy changed my life. Or certainly the way that I view myself. And that is BIG people. Big. There is nothing better a person can for themselves than take care of oneself, she says as she sips her diet coke. (Just so you know that I am not getting all preachy and stuff. )
I love to hear your weekend plans, all of you being all productive and all. I planned to be productive myself. Andy went away on a golf weekend and Derek is canoeing the Saco overnight complete with pup tent and peanut butter sandwiches and Bethany had to work today (not at the new wonderful EMT job but the old job) and I had BIG plans. Clean, organize, scrub, put laundry away, do some crewel, read, cook a nice meal. None of it materialized itself when all of a sudden I was struck down with a severe case of sleeping sickness. I have taken naps with a vengence today. One after another and frankly? If I go sit on that couch right now? My head will droop and I will be drooling and snoring within minutes. So I will force myself to roam the house doing this and that for a couple of hours and then put in a movie tonight. Then? All bets are off. When I get like this I figure it is for a reason so I try to snooze away. But enough is enough, you know?
There is always tomorrow for plans. I would like to go strawberry picking tomorrow and make some strawberry jam.
Most likely the snooze activities is coaxed onward by extreme worry. There is some big worries about my father in law right now and I'd appreciate more than ever if you kept him in your good thought especially on Monday at 2 pm when he will be in Beth Israel Hospital having a biopsy and a bile duct stent put in. Honestly as many good thoughts as can be mustered need to be floating his way. This is some bad stuff, potentially. And I can't even mutter it aloud just yet.
~~
And on a tangent to brighten this place a bit, I am reading 2 pretty good books right now.
The first is Digging to America by Anne Tyler. I just love Anne Tyler and this book, while not her best is very good. The other is called The Sister by Poppy Adams. So far I love the story and the writing is excellent.
What are you reading?

I've never heard of the philosophy products but the website looks interesting. Can you tell me more?

Hugs, honey. I love my Hope in a Jar, and my Purity, as you know, and love the name of my SPF: "When Hope Is Not Enough." Gotta love their cleverness, those Philosophy peoples. XOXO

I love Philosophy, too. Got my sister and niece into the 3 in one bath stuff and that is what they get for holidays now. My mother I have gotten to use the perfume and other stuff.
I just finished Jennifer Chiaverini's The Winding Ways Quilt. I don't quilt but happened to spot one in the library a few years ago and have since read every one. Very light reading but they remind me of knitters.
I have "The Secret" and a few other books from the library right now. Hope to get some reading done over the holiday weekend.
I will be sending positive thoughts your way tomorrow.

Back with another book recommendation- "Lady of the Snakes" by Rachel Pastan. Just picked it up from the library today after reading great reviews.

Hey Sandy, good thoughts and prayers are coming your way.
I'm reading a really fun and well written book by a new-to-me author- "Belong to Me" by Marissa de los Santos. It's the second novel about the main character. The first is called "Love walked In". They're perfect for summer reading- enjoy them on your porch with a glass of iced tea. :) I was on the waiting list at my library for awhile though- they are pretty popular.

Sending all positive thoughts your way for you and your family, Sandy. Health issues are so very worrisome.
What am I currently reading? It seems I cannot keep my interest in any book, for very long. I do not know where my attention span has gone.
I did love Anne Tyler at one point, Dinner at the Homesick Cafe and The Accidental Tourist were wonderful. Maybe I'll try her new one.
The last book I read, that grabbed my attention, was The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Sort of a Gothic-type mystery. I read it in winter and it was perfect for reading in bed.

I love my philosopy; I just started using the micro-exfoliating wash and the 20spf hope in a jar; love both products!! I am reading Riding lessons by Sara Gruen of Water for Elephants fame. Also sipping green tea with Acai berries in it, yum!

The very best of all thoughts I can muster are coming your way and to your f-i-l. I'm reading Be Near Me by Andrew O'Hagan and after just a few pages I'm loving it.

I'm sending healthy, healing thoughts to your father-in-law. I hope the news on Monday is good.
What I'm reading is a very forgettable book. So forgettable, in fact, that I have to keep going back to scan the previous chapter to figure out the reference in the current chapter. Sigh. It really is time to just go to the bookstore and buy a new book.

Oh, Sandy, I will be keeping you and your dad in my heart. Sleep as much as you need to - your body is telling you something.
I've been reading Elizabeth Zimmerman!

You will all be in my thoughts, my Sandy. Worrying is what I do, after all.
Does a pattern count as reading? I'm having a go at BYOB for my mother.
In black.
I think we know where what remains of eye sight will be going.

I had that napping thing last week. Yes, for the whole week. WHAT?!? It's not like they're letting me work right now. Today I had the hankering to run around a little and actually saw a blue sky. *gasp* I know!
MMMMM! Homemade strawberry jam! YUMMERS! I haven't had that in ages. Hmmmm.. maybe I'll have to go get the fixins for it.

Recently I read Kate Atkinson's Behind the Scenes at the Museum (it's a few years old). An amazing story of an English family over much of the 20th century -- I found it captivating. Have heard good things about The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. Good luck with the BI. It's a good place if you need it, but ... Only good vibes.

Bought my SPF "When Hope Is Not Enough" (Hope in a Jar) Saturday. So far so good!
Sorry about the scary stuff with your FIL. Sending positive thoughts your way. Hope all went well today.
