07.01.2008 :: 181. A list for a Tuesday (it IS Tuesday, right?)
~My father in law is still in Beth Israel Hospital awaiting more tests and most likely an operation to remove a tumor from his common bile duct. Awaiting the biopsy, nobody has said the C word to any of us yet but secretly we feel the writing is on the wall. The internet is a blessing and a curse in this way.
~My heart aches for him
~But I am still hopeful that it is just an obstruction. I will keep hoping until the last minute
~Driving home from Boston was spectacular. The nighttime view on Storrow Drive is breathtaking. I appreciated that.
~We had many thunderstorms tonight, one viewed from the solarium at Beth Israel
~I missed the final episode of Hell's Kitchen (gawd, I love that show!) I did DVR it so I'll watch it tomorrow. But curiosity is trying to get the best of me. Who won? I bet it was Petrozza. (Don't tell me) (It WAS Petrozza, wasn't it?) (It would be so easy to do a bit of a google search to find out) (But I won't)
~Today is July 1st.
~Wow, the year is flying by, one blog entry at a time!
~I believe tomorrow marks the mid year point of the 365 blogging. I am amazed that I am still blogging every day, even if some days like today is just squeaking by. Barely but it counts.
~I'm more amazed that you are reading every day. I'm impressed with you
~I am extending a huge apology to you because I most likely owe you an email. You probably left a great comment or sent an email and I read it and it meant a lot to me and I commented on it (in my head anyway) and then never got around to writing that out in actual words that you could read. Yeah, sorry about that.
~It was Petrozza, wasn't it?????
~I got some great questions about freezer pectin vs. regular pectin for jam making. And I even researched this a bit. I'll let you know the findings tomorrow. Same bat time, same bat channel.
~Did I ever tell you how much I loved the show Batman when I was little? I had batman stickers all over everything including my doll carriage. Robin was dreamy to my younger self. Now? He's just kind of creepy.
~I saw a 3 pack of Nancy Drew books in BJ's the other day and I pined to buy them. Bethany advised me to let the past live in the past because so often the reality is never as good as the memory. She may have a point.
~But NANCY DREW!!!! And it was the first 3 books of the series.
~I did not buy them
~Yet
~Do you Plurk?
~Must sleep now. Nighty night

Yikes. I'll be thinking of your FIL and your family. (This is what I get for not actually reading every day.)
Somewhere I have the first three Nancy Drews combined into one handy volume! Which, if I ever find it again, you may have with my compliments. Unless I've forgotten that I gave it away years ago, in which case, trust me: you're really not missing that much. (First book: Nancy searches for a missing will that will conveniently disinherit some thoroughly unpleasant people in favor of lovely deserving ones. Second book: Nancy tries to solve the mystery of a haunted mansion. Third book: Nancy deals with a lowlife trying to swindle a sweet young girl out of her inheritance. Will Nancy succeed? The suspense mounts.)
I've never made freezer jam, only the regular kind where you boil it for a while.

Continued best wished for your FIL. I'm going to have to read my old Nancy Drews when I go visit my mom. Did you read the Cherry Ames series, too?

Go for the Nancy Drew! We watched the (extremely cheesy) movie on DVD over the winter and, just for fun, got the first book of the series from the library. Turns out the five-year-old boy child LOVES them. We read a chapter just about every night and are midway through the fourth one.

Our lives run in tandem. I wish you good luck with your in-law and I'm sure you wish me good luck with mine.

Love your blogging 365; wouldn't miss a day of reading. DVR'd Hell's Kitchen also; I'm hoping it was Corey... Petrozza is too... too... something. Weak? Wussy? and definitely way too messy! Thanks for all the great posts!

Still thinking about all of you and sending love, my Sandy.
I think Bethany is a very wise young lady. Going back is never the same because we have changed and they have not.
Don't worry about the email. I'll just show up at your door one day and make you talk to me and feed me jam.
You plurk?!

sorry about your FIL. i send him good healthy thoughts.
as for nancy drew. the books won't smell the same. so don't buy them. if you must, go to the library and read a passage or two from the copies they have there.

Good thoughts going to you and your family... let us know how things go.
My girls have my girlhood Nancy Drew books, including about 15 or 20 double-bound volumes from the Nancy Drew Book Club I was in (yeah, and we've already discussed the Archie Pen Pal thing), as well as the Nancy Drew Cookbook. Yeah. So I understand your yearnings!

Still one more episode! You're good. Still sending feel good wishes.
Californians are freaks! 5 stores and no freezer pectin. Apparently they like to do thinks the old fashioned way.
I guess I'll be canning more than green beans and carrots this year.
You Jam Pusher, you!

Sorry to hear about the tumor. Did the biopsy pathology not come back yet? Was a PET scan done yet? I have found that you sometimes have to ask the questions of the attending MD point blank in order to get an answer- it's hard when you're dealing with so many residents in a teaching hospital. Keeping my fingers crossed for him. My mom had a super thoracic oncologist there!
Get the books.

There is still one more episode to find out who wins. I'm not sure who I want to win. Whoever it is I'm sure I'll hope it was the other. Unless someone does something really assy next week in the final dinner service. *L*
*dances on the pins & needles about more Jam Posts*

I hope you had a great Tuesday! :D

In regards to Nancy Drew, several years ago my niece was reading tehm on vacation. I picked up one and read it. I thought it was just as nice as I remembered. I might have picked them up at BJs! (Although my daughter is 7 and might read them in the future).
Sending good wishes to your FIL.

Nancy Drew! I loved her. But for me, she is in the past. Not nostalgic at all. Except .... now that you brought it up......
Oh, cripes. Not another THING. Sandy!!! XOXO

Oh, Nancy Drew is still fun. But don't buy the new editions from the bookstore--they changed them a lot and you won't get the true nostalgic experience. You have to find the old ones on ebay. (I'll happily lend them to you.)

Since I don't watch the tv show of which you speak, I won't be giving anything away here. But I'd like to send good wishes for your father-in-law.

I'm delurking to urge you to go back and buy the Nancy Drew books. And if you need other support check out the Nancy Drew group on Ravelry. You're not alone in your desire to appreciate the past. Sometimes it is a nice place to visit and reminisce, and escape.

I bought my Nancy Drew on Ebay a few years ago. I have no idea how much I spent on them, but I eventually have nearly the entire set. I had to do it once I discovered that my niece had sold my former books at a tag sale and never told me about it! Go for it Sandy. Get the books.

Hope your FIL is OK. I just had my gallbladder out and had a test (ERCP) that you FIL may have had. Hope it's good news for you all.
