07.03.2008 :: 183. Green thumb or careless housekeeper?

sweet potatoes growing without me
I noticed these forgotten sweet potatoes in a bag on the counter today. They want to be planted so bad. Perhaps I will take them up on that offer. I have never grown potatoes, sweet or not. How can I just kill off those green leaves? All those stems? They want to be a plant so bad, not dinner! Perhaps it's like a motherhood urge, a ticking biological clock. When they were not being roasted for dinner, they decided the time was right to procreate!
And while we are talking about green thumbs?
Little Dougy II
A craptastic picture of Little Dougy II. I thought he wouldn't have a chance either when his needles stuck together in the seed pod and it would not let go for a couple of days. But I left him alone to work out his problems, like a good mom should do.
I guess this means it's another Green Day:

Little Dougy II is very cute. Personality Plus. I'm rooting for him. The Sweet Potato Twins have potential.

Re: Green Day, I think maybe I told you this, but maybe I just thought it. You know how you mean to comment but don't have time and then don't make it back?

Anyway, my 12-year-old daughter is in a band; they just had their first public performance of the one song they have ready so far, which is (ta-da!) Holiday by Green Day. They did a great job! Not that I'm prejudiced. If you go to YouTube and search on Waiting for Sunday (their band name), you'll find a video I took (hate to put in a link, that'll get me lumped with the spammerers). I think you might enjoy it....

That's impressive. It will be interesting to see what becomes of it. Mine just get wrinkly too. *L*

How do you get it to grow on the counter? Mine just kind of crinkle and mold. :(

I haven't heard that song in forever. Thanks and have a great weekend.

My second & third grade teacher used to start a sweet potato plant in our classroom every fall by placing the potato in a jar of water. By the time school let out the following June, the vine would go all the way around the room and be starting a second round.

Never question a tiny treeling's desire to grow up.

Go little Dougy, GO!!!!

Hmmm, sweet potatoes. They really DO look like they're begging to be planted. I don't know if they'd grow up here, but maybe since you're way down sawth......:D

Happy 4th!
