07.22.2008 :: 202. Raspberries on the side

Yesterday, inspired by Julie's homemade crackers, I followed this recipe:
They were scrumptious! I ate more than my share. Unfortunately, I did not wrap them right away and the humidity got to them and took their crispness away.
The crackers inspired my lunch

The crackers went well with red pepper hummus (my personal fav) and raspberries. Because lately? I think raspberries go with about everything!

Let's see: Today is my 4th day of vacation and I spent a tad of the day cleaning (which is my goal for everyday this week) and then into Boston again to visit my FIL. Today was supposed to be his big cancer surgery but overnight he developed a high fever putting the kibosh on the surgery. I have so much more to say about the bad decisions of the doctors during this process but I won't bore you with that rant. I have become the super spokeswoman though. I have been transformed.
We will overcome!

Awesome job Sandy! You go on with your bad self, speaking up for he who can't.

Re: your FIL, if you haven't done this already, get in touch with his Primary Nurse or RN case Manager and map out a strategy with her (or him). Sometimes it helps to have someone on your side who really knows the ropes. My thoughts are with you, your FIL and your family.

Your goals for your vacation are admirable. As is your advocacy for you FIL. I will put your family in my prayers. Enjoy your moments - and oh la la, those raspberries!

Fingers tightly crossed for your FIL. This must be a very tense time for you and yours... but hopefully things will turn out right.
I covet your fresh raspberries. I agree, they go with everything--but especially chocolate. ;-)

Healing thoughts coming to your FIL.

IMHO, becoming Super Spokeswoman Sandy is the best thing you can do for your FIL, your family & yourself. I'm picturing you in a shirt emblazoned with a large red "SSS" shield! Don't ever be afraid to ask all your questions and express all your views to all the doctors, even if (especially if) they don't want to listen. Try and make the decisions yours (your family's) as much as possible. That way they won't be the dr.'s bad decisions; they'll always be made with love & in the best interests of your FIL.

I learned so much about doctors, patients and hospitals after Michael's accident -- mostly about who and what drives the decision-making process. I hear you!

I hear you on the patient advocate thing. Did it for my mother for 10 months- the residents despised me because I knew more than they did. And she wasn't on the oncology floor at the time as it was being revamped. Instead she was on a medical floor. I found checking in regularly with her attending oncologist helped. Call me if you want to vent. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and your FIL.

Every person in the hospital needs an advocate. Be there, speak up and be heard. It will be best for everyone!

My thoughts are with you and your FIL. Every patient needs an advocate and he's lucky to have you!
