08.20.2008 :: 231. So, yeah...about knitting. Remember that as a topic?

This may look like a ruffly, red edged thing.
It is not.
Your eyes deceive you.
It is a scarf. Charlotte's Scarf, to be exact (Not Charlotte's Web, like Li thought) from the Green Mountain Spinnery Knitting Book made from THE yarn. The Foxfire cormo silk. Remember this yarn started to be an Irish hiking scarf and then transformed into the Aran Island Mittens and now the Charolotte Scarf. This is a keeper.
This scarf is knit lengthwise which I will admit is not my favorite way. 240 stitches gives "one more row" a new meaning! But the pattern and the yarn fit together like Fig and his catnip treats. They were made for each other. I wish you could reach through your screen and feel the scarf. It is cushy in a good way.
It has a provisional cast on so that both sides of the scarf will match as opposed to a regular cast on which never ever matches your cast off ever. Hence the red edge. So you can see that it HAS a red edge but does NOT have a red edge after all.
You see?
This scarf reminds me of why I love knitting so much.
(Can you feel the love?)

How about a nice picture of Fig?

Not the gray, furry one. This one is the sublimely sweet variety. Specifically the Black Mission Fig. Not as cute but delicious!

Sandy, it's lovely. I'm just wondering, does that pattern look just a bit... lacey?
I love a fig. Feline and other.

Well, DANG. I sold my Green Mt. Spinnery book, I do believe. And I do not remember a scarf pattern in it! I can't wait to see and feel the finished object. And figs....we hardly ever get fresh figs up this way. I'd never had one 'til I moved to England!!! Yummmmmmmm!

I love that scarf ... I made one a couple of years ago, and someone STOLE IT FROM ME at Borders. Just pulled it right off my purse and scarpered off.
Hold yours tightly with both hands. It's too lovely to let go.

I totally understand! I knit the Birds' Nest Shawl from Folk Shawls, and it is knit "the long way". I was knitting away in rusty-brown Alpaca Cloud. DH asked "What are you knitting?" "An Irish Setter!" I replied. The shawl will always be known as "The Irish Setter Shawl". VBG!
