08.26.2008 :: 237. We've got sunshine, on a cloudy day (sing along)

File this into the "Be Careful what you wish for" category:

22 years ago, on my birthday I went into labor. I had spent a better part of that nine months (among other things) wishing that I would not have the baby on my birthday. I wanted each of us to have our own day. That thought was half for the baby and half selfish. I wanted my own day. I did not want it encompassed in the birthday of the child.
I got what I wished for. Labor started the morning of my birthday and lasted (and lasted) (And lasted) until 7 am the next morning when Derek made his appearance. That also marked the earliest he ever got up on his own. He would be a night owl for the rest of his days up to and including the present.
I got my wish. He was not born on my birthday. Little did I know that most of my birthdays when he was growing up would be spent in frantic cleaning jags and party preparations.
The party is a bit smaller nowadays but it still is a special one.
Happy Birthday, Derek!
derek tie dyed his fingers
He's single, ladies! AND? He tie dyes his fingers when tie dying shirts!
Derek's birthday cake
Derek's birthday tradition is a strawberry cake, from a box mix and fluffy white frosting, from a can. He loves it and there is no straying from his birthday cake.
~~
Did you notice I called myself a GEYSER yesterday? Which is just silly. I may erupt now and again but I am more of a GEEZER. What can I say? I was distracted!
~~
Birthday Sunset
sunset on my birthday
A huge thank you to all of you for the birthday wishes. You make a girl cry good tears!
Prizes tomorrow!

Happy Birthday Derek!
Your tie-dyed fingers look almost barbaric!
Have a wonderful 22nd year,
Does strawberry cake go with beer?

Dude... easy on the eye.

Enjoy your day!

Happy Birthday to both you and Derek. That's definitely a "be careful what you wish for story" to top all stories! He looks like he was worth every minute. Enjoy.

He looks a sweetheart but my daughter is only 5! (Coincidentally, she likes strawberry cake too.) Maybe in 20 years they'll be like Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. ;) Happy Birthday and enjoy that cake!

Happy happy to you both!

My first child, now my 18-year-old son, was less cooperative than yours. He was due 10 days or so before my birthday, but held in there and insisted on sharing that day with me. Labor started at 6:30 that morning and ended 15 hours later. What a day and what a gift!
