09.23.2008 :: 265. Like water for my soul and more whale tails
Remember the whale tails I spotted in Vermont?
I spotted them in the bookstore tonight!

This is truly the season of the whale tails!
Besides thoroughly enjoying the crisp fall air, the changing colors and the early sunsets, today Bethany and I spent a good amount of time in the bookstore choosing a big stack of books between the two of us. Wait until you see the stack. (early sunsets means no photos tonight though)
What are you reading?
Currently I am into Water for Elephants. I am loving it so far. Have you read it?

That book is on my to read list. I just started Snow Flower and the Secret Fan but just haven't been into reading lately. Not sure why as I usually read at least a book a week.

Heard it was good but haven't yet read. Am reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle which a friend highly recommended and I had purchased. Now it's Oprah's latest book club selection.

Yes, it was a fabulous book. I listened to it during my commute to the office and was often found "finishing" a chapter before entering the office or home.

I "read" Water for Elephants as an audiobook. I thought it was FABULOUS.

OMG-
I LOVED that book!! I read it on vacation and just devoured it. I always recommend it when asked for a good book.

Aren't those tails absolutely wild? When I first saw them I thought...well, never mind. Vermont is the only land-locked state in New England so the whales are a surprise.

I'll add that one to my list.
I'm currently reading "His Dark Materials" - the trilogy by Phillip Pullman. ("The Golden Compass" is book one.) LOVE it! When I finish, I'll probably start again at the beginning and re-read it. Though my husband is expressing interest in reading it when I'm done...

Whale tails and elephants.....if you want to continue with the animal theme, try "The Good Good Pig" by Sy Montgomery.

Books! Nora told me about the Twilight series and I'm through book two. In Dallas, they have this place called 1/2 Price Books and I've been going a little nutty. I'll be picking up a bunch this weekend.
Happy Wednesday Sandy!

LOL ... it sounds as though I think everything is "wonderful". Well, both of those books were. Enjoy "Elephants"!

I'm reading Loving Frank about Frank Lloyd Wright's extramarital affair. It's ok but only on page 50. Maybe it gets better.

I have, and it was wonderful.
I just finished "What Was Lost", by Catherine O'Flynn ... it was wonderful.

I'm reading the Yiddish Policeman's Union...weird is the word.

I gave a whale tail mug to my daughter's boyfriend for Christmas last year and the two of them cracked up. Later, my daughter explained why. I thought it was a private joke between them, but the same thing played out when I gave my sister a similar mug and her even younger daughter cracked up. Clearly I am old to not have known.

I have it, but still haven't dipped in yet.

I tried to read Water for Elephants and couldn't get into it. But I've heard it's really good and it might just have not been the right time for me. I've got it on my list to try again.

I have it, but haven't read it yet. Maybe I should and we can discuss at Rhinebeck! (Although I can't seem to finish anything longer than a "Young Adult" book these days.)

Ha! Whale Tails rule! :D

Hey, I just downloaded it, I'll start it tomorrow and we can "read" along together. Won't that be fun?

I got that for my birthday! It drew me right in as the beginning of it takes place in the town I grew up in and at my undergraduate college. I'm not finished yet but soon.
