09.28.2008 :: 270. thank you for being you

I'm now going to do what I do best in life. Avoidance. I'm good at it.
But first, I will give you an update because you deserve one after all those prayers and good thoughts.
Keep them coming, by the way!
My FIL was quite startled when we all showed up after his "episode" of unresponsiveness after his oxygen levels dropped dangerously low. He has an order not to resuscitate or put him on a ventilator and the doctor's thought that was his moment to go. It turned out not to be. He was given another oxygen delivery system that seems a bit more effective for him but at best his oxygen levels are in the high 80's. (it's supposed to be 100%, 89% being acceptable). He is being given morphine and kept comfortable. Lots of conversations went on which were heartbreaking and touched me to my very soul.
And with that? Join me in my avoidance. Please.

I took a little walk outside today to look at what is happening around the yard. This time of year is full of beauty.
the dogwood tree is STUFFED with berries this fall!
My dogwood tree is absolutely STUFFED with these berries! It makes a striking sight!
Dogwood berries in the rain
The rain drips off the berries, adding to their beauty!
mums
The orange and gold mums are my favorites in autumn. Nothing beats their punch of color to the porch!
Look who is visiting!
grasshopper
Is that Boing?
Don't forget to notice the autumn beauty around you!

Oh, *I* need some oxygen after that.
Glad all is well and relatively stable.
Pretty flowers.

I will make it my business to hunt down and photograph some autumn beauty today.

I don't think I've ever seen a dogwood tree in person, much less with berries on it. Very pretty.

I'm glad that your avoidance leads you to see the beauty in a drip of water.

I have a love-hate relationship with the dogwood berries. We had a bumper crop here too. While very beautiful, my dogs have discovered them like the latest junk food and are addicted. Dogwood berries in their diet= barf later in the day. I should really call them Barf-berries.

Glad FIL's O2 sats are better and that he's comfortable. And that important conversations were had. A process of letting go. And so hard to do.

You inspire me to go to a greenhouse and purchase a mum plant for my front door. Yummy photos!

Those are some amazing pictures!! I have never seen so many berries on a dogood, and I don't think I ever looked at them closely.

Thinking of you, Sandy. When someone reaches this point with a loved one, I always think of what my rabbi told me when my father was dying: It is a real privilege to be with someone when they are at the end of life. There's much to be learned, as hard as it is.

Beautiful photos!!

xoxo
