10 on tuesday.gif

Thought I'd do a 10 on Tuesday gig this week. (It IS Tuesday, isn't it?)
Todays 10: 10 Things that Scare You/Freak you out

Alrighty then.

1. Going to Class reunions. I am afraid that no one will remember me.
2. The price of oil to heat our home
3. Little flies at work that show up in the ladies room. I have never seen such a fly and I suspect they may indeed be tsetse flies. Yes, right here in a Massachusetts bathroom. And it's waiting to bite my butt. Giving me a terrible tsetse disease. That does freak me out. Imagine the horror of getting the dreaded tsetse disease ON MY BUTT? ~shudder~
4. Nuclear war. Not since I was a small girl have I been scared of that. Shame on you, Mr. Bush.
5. Cleaning our upstairs hall closet. That would frighten anyone.
6. Seeing my husband cry for his father's suffering.
7. Remember the movie Carrie? At the end a hand comes through the grave to grab someone's leg or arm? That freaks me out.
8. SPI.DERS.
9. That I am insignificant and the best I can do is feed people in a crisis.
10. Bugs in general. I tried to break it up into the flies and spiders but what about the fleas? The ants, the moths, the silverfish???? OH! The silverfish! THE EARWIGS!??!! I hate them all. In my home. They are perfectly acceptable as Mother Nature intended them to be. Outside, in dirt or on plants doing what little bugs do best. Not bugging me, I hope.

Do you freak out about something? Do tell.

Oh, I forgot class reunions! I am petrified of them because I am afraid that *everyone* will remember me and what a complete dweeb I was, and will remark that I haven't changed a bit.

I am so sorry for your loss, Sandy. Bob sounds like such a great guy. I will be sure to squeeze everyone, including the cats.

Snakes. Zippy thin snakes that whisk right out from underfoot.

And sharks. I won't go into the ocean. Nope, thanks very much, swimming pools and ponds offer fine refreshment for me, thanks. Nothing big enough to eat me in there.

And what freaks me out in a gross way? People who encourage dogs to lick them on the mouth. I know that its normal for dogs to lick at your face, and that happens and it's fine-- it's just the people who openly coax the dogs to give tongue licks to their open mouths that absolutely freak me out.

Insignificant?!

Oh, I don't think so. Don't make me come over there, my Sandy...

Spiders!! Oh how I am afraid of spiders. There was one on the windsheild last night. Nearly had a car accident.

Insignificant? Never!!

Snakes.

I'm actually fine with spiders, and am the resident spider-relocator.

I'm with everyone else on the feeding people thing. And with you on the bugs. And with Carole on Sarah Palin. The other thing that's freaking me out is this 7 foot tall plant in my office that suddenly flowered after 4 years, and is literally making me ill.

It freaks me out that you would think of yourself as insignificant, especially since you refer to feeding people in a crisis in the same sentence. Anyone who can do that is not insignificant, believe me. And I am so moved by your posts about your father-in-law. One of the most significant things you can do is to really be present at the end of someone's life. You're doing it in spades.

Right now I'm freaking out about the crickets in the basement.

What's the first thing FEMA and the Red Cross do in a crisis? Feed people! Extremely important!! And Sarah Palin scares the c%*p out of me.

Posted by: Carol on 10.01.2008 AT 07:53 AM

Didn't you know that feeding people is the very best thing you can do in a crisis? At least it's useful and necessary...unlike most people in a crisis.

Cockroaches. The dentist.

I'm sorry, but I'm thinking of you as tsetse butt Sandy now.

I agree with Norma, feeding people in a crisis is very significant!

And big spi.ders freak me out too. Unreasonably so. I mean, I'm bigger than they are, but they scare the heck out of me.

Posted by: Mary in Boston on 10.01.2008 AT 06:53 AM

Hah, I don't go to high school reunions because I'm afraid they WOULD remember me! No love lost there, better times since then.

Posted by: Barbara-Kay on 09.30.2008 AT 11:40 PM

Not much really freaks me out (I'm lying). But I want to say that being able to feed people in a crisis is a huge life skill, NOT INSIGNIFICANT. XOXO

continuing the bug theme, worst ones are Giant North Florida Palmetto Bugs (aka big outdoor roaches)!!!! I lose it when they show up in the house and have been having a problem with them all summer... turns out they've been getting in through a cracked seal under the toilet... I was raised in Marblehead and we didn't have no Palmetto Bugs when I was a kid... they're a southern specialty I can live without, thank you very much!
