12.10.2008 :: 22. finding the joy

Still finding the joy in this season. My yearly reading of A Christmas Carol is enhanced by finding a beautiful version illustrated by PJ Lynch. and the knitting. Always with the knitting. I am hoping to get the left side done today and start a sleeve tomorrow. There will have to be a break at some point so that I can get a couple of gifts done. But for now, I knit, read, listen to carols and worry about a furry one.

A Christmas Carol and knitting

(you tube will be undergoing some maintence later tonight so if you don't see this video come back in a while to see it. It is one of my favorites. But then again, I say that about all the songs)
Go ahead and share your joyful thing with me. I can use it.

i hope fig is not in pain, i know losing a pet is soooo hard, in the last three years we have lost one pet a year, first our cat fred. he was 17. same age as my youngest daughter, next was emma our great dane, she was an unexpected loss. she wasn't that old, then ben our great pyraneese. he was 16. it is so hard, we lost then all in november, i don't know why or how that happened. but my thoughts go out to you and your family. i do so enjoy your blog. enjoy your holidays.

A beautiful song, and new to me. (Though "a nice, Jewish girl," I know a ton of Christmas music; really love it.) One of my favorites is the "Personent Hodie," which I first heard 40+ years ago at Harvard's Mem Church's annual concerts. I hope the music calms the flagging Figs -- and you, too.

Olives for Christmas! When I was a kid, money was really tight. 5 kids who all love olives and one tiny jar equals about 3 olives each, not nearly enough. But every year Santa put a whole (still tiny) jar in each Christmas stocking, and we got to eat as many as we liked. Some of us finished them before 7am, some hoarded them and rationed them for weeks, but it didn't matter..... it was the only time in the year we each had a WHOLE JAR! Little luxuries are very sweet!

Today I bought the Christmas olives for Santa to stuff in stockings. That's my joy.

The songs are lovely, Sandy. Thanks!

Finding the joy among all our worries and cares is a true skill. My knitting & sewing is my solace, especially on a grey day like today.

I had dinner out with my best girlfriends last night. It was joyful!

I used to read "A Christmas Carol" to my kids at this time of year. Still love it.
Hugs to you and Fig.

Continuing to send good wishes to the little furry one. Think of him as I cuddle my little 15 year old lady.
