Bear Knits has a mitten done on a special someone who is all ready for SNOW!
Ina has a gorgeous mitten and a bit of a sob story about her failed Charlotte's Web. Bring tissues with you when you visit her. But don't forget to rejoice over the beauty of her mitten! :)

Now, what are you sitting here for? Go knit some mittens! Aren't your hands cold??

Comments

I just posted a pix of my almost done first mitten. I am really like the color combo and the angora is GREAT for the cuffs. What do you all think?

Posted by: knittingnurse at November 7, 2005 07:21 PM

Thanks for the mitten love! The top pair is a combination of Latvian mitten patterns (entry 11/6/05) and the other pair is Estonian (entry 8/27/05).

This is my first KAL and I must say I am really enjoying it. It's so fun to see everyone's mittens and discover so many other blogs!

Posted by: Jackie at November 7, 2005 09:16 PM

Hi Sandy!

I bought a great pattern yesterday for bulky cabled mittens. So, I should be on my way shortly!

Posted by: Kathy at November 7, 2005 10:24 PM

Hey, Sandy. Whadaya talkin' about? You're a great hostess! Look at all those mittens! Thanks for the mitten party.

Posted by: Ann at November 7, 2005 10:30 PM

Wow, these folks are knitting mittens that is for sure. I suppose I should cast on soon, yes very soon. Is there somewhere that a picture of Hermoine's mittens are posted, I looked at the blogs that mentioned them, but found no pic.

Thanks for the hard work, I promise I'll start my mittens sooner...or later...

Posted by: Angie at November 8, 2005 01:14 AM

Wow! What a great update---no wonder your head is spinning, eh? And speaking of spinning....maybe I can get in a few minutes before work. There just never is enough time!!

Posted by: Kim at November 8, 2005 08:22 AM

Finished one, simple, pair. About to start second pair. Fun !

Posted by: Emma at November 8, 2005 05:13 PM

The first of the thrummed mitten is finished. I'll cast on the second when I'm good and ready! Picture (well, scan) here. I got distracted after a long evening of knitting and somehow woke with a finished mitten on my hand. Bizarre.

I am in love with the Camilla gloves from Simply Shetland 2. I made a pair using Jamieson Shetland Spindrift per the pattern and am now making a second pair out of CASHMERE. Omigod. They are beautiful, and I love the custom fit.

You know, I knew about Warm Hands, but didn't think I was going to participate.

Then I started making myself some fingerless mitts, and today I finished the first one before remembering that I could qualify for the knit-a-long now!

So here I am!

http://tinyurl.com/de9hk

That will take you to my blog post where I announced the start of the fingerless mitts WIP.

Thanks for giving me another touchpoint for feeling like part of the online knitting community, Sandy!

Hello! I just found your KAL and would like to make a pair of mittens. So exciting! I have some orange handspun that I would like to use. Now where is that pattern...

Posted by: Stacey at November 10, 2005 07:02 PM

Hi!
I would also like to join the Knit-Along!
I am working on the Fair-isle Norweigan mittens from Winter 2004 IK. I have some pictures of progress on the cuff already up on my blog.

Posted by: Angel at November 10, 2005 07:12 PM

Hi Sandy, I'm giving you my update now because I don't know if I'll (a) be home on the weekend to do it or (b) actually remember to do it. *lol*

I just finished knitting a pair of mittens (Gifted by Kate Gilbert) for my 2 year old daughter. Here is the link to the post the mittens are in ... http://milotis78.blogspot.com/2005/11/good-news-bad-news.html

Posted by: Samantha at November 11, 2005 10:14 AM

Sandy...I have given it three shots to join in the area you asked us to...but it just isn't working. I'm hoping this one will get through. Would love to join, make a pair of mitten for the giving tree at work. I'll check back to see if I'm in.

Posted by: Sherrill at November 11, 2005 11:36 AM

Despite some hesitation on my part due to the strict rules of this KAL, I would love to join. :) I have lurked at your blog for a long time, Sandy, and have always admired your knitting, but especially the mittens. I think it's about time I learn to tackle some colorwork, and what better way than mittens?!

Posted by: Carie Morrison at November 11, 2005 10:44 PM

Well, here you go. I announced yesterday I was joining the Warm Hands Knit-a-Long, and last night I finished my pair of fingerless mitts.

You can visit the pictures and my evaluation at

http://tinyurl.com/8r28s

This was a pattern I created myself - I'm calling them Freedom Mitts. The name is derived from the fact that I have a comfort issue with anything that wraps closely around the fingers, like gloves, and these mitts will keep me warm while keeping my fingers free. I plan to put the pattern up as a free PDF at my blog soon - I just have to write it out, clean it up, and assemble the PDF.

Thanks for the inspiration! This was fun!

Here's this week's update. A bad cold kept me hom yesterday and today so I got the Fleur-de-Lys mittens finished and washed, and did a tiny pair of toddler mittens for a give away. Pictures on my blog.

Posted by: Rob at November 12, 2005 04:51 PM

my update is posted on my blog for today :) so it should remain the top entry for a while. i finished lots of mittens this week!

Posted by: helen at November 13, 2005 01:19 AM

Hi!
I'd like you to see Miss B's mittens.
Leena

Posted by: Leena at November 13, 2005 03:53 AM

Hi Sandy,
I just updated my blog this morning. I am really enjoying seeing everyones mittens.

Posted by: Maureen at November 13, 2005 10:21 AM

Can I join????

I just started knitting mittens. I am halfway through a fingerless mittens project for a friend and I am doing some fingerless gloves for my brother next.

Posted by: Sarah at November 13, 2005 10:39 AM

I am done with one mitten, and half way done with the second. I ran our of the mohair yarn and have to wait until tomorrow to get some more. :(
The mitten pattern is from October 15th, but I am making a larger thumb gusset. I think the sock yarn will make these longer lasting as driving mittens. Its getting colder here so I can't wait to get them done.

Posted by: Nancy at November 13, 2005 01:09 PM

I just finished my first mitten - and my first fair isle! Woo Hoo!! It's one of the Frostrosen mittens from Nordic Fiber Arts - the pattern is wonderful and so much fun to knit.

Posted by: Kathy at November 13, 2005 05:28 PM

I just started Lucy Neatby's Paradoxical Mittens! Not much to show yey but I'll have pictures on my blog soon.

Posted by: Sherry W at November 13, 2005 06:39 PM

Wow! So many great mittens to look at! I've had almost zero knitting time this week, so I'm still working on pair #2 of the fingerless mittens. I have high hopes of casting on for a new pair of mitts this week, and working on something to contribute to the folks in Indiana.

Posted by: Candace at November 13, 2005 07:14 PM

Please add me to the KAL. I started the Gardening Mittens from the new Louisa Harding book this weekend. Granted, they are fingerless, but I live in Texas where it so we'll just call them Texas Mittens.

Posted by: Liz at November 13, 2005 09:16 PM

very inspiring! i never 'officially' joined - but see my blog for my first pair of finished mitts.

hope to get a pair done for myself this week as well, temp in VT is dropping quickly!
